It hurt me to think of Scott. I was so stupid, so naive. He was the main reason why I couldn't come home sooner—the reason I had to stay with Kiah's family until I was 18.
I had met him in Paris, near the Eiffel Tower. I hadn't been out of the house for so long. I chose to roam around Paris. I loved taking in the beauty of the buildings, and even watching the tourists.
I was 16 and very naive. I fell hard for this light-skinned man with dark auburn hair, and bright glowing green eyes. There was something about him like I had known him. Something compelled me to him. Had I been smart, I would have stayed away.
For the next two weeks after the first night we had met. It was routine for me to sneak out while Kiah was distracted by his Alpha training with his father. I was putting myself in danger, when I knew perfectly well I was safe with Kiah.
We had walked everywhere we could think of around Paris, talking and getting to know each other. I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something familiar about him. After those two weeks, I still couldn't figure out what it was that had me so compelled to think I was safe with him. Until the last night he was in town, he told me something that he should have kept to himself.
In front of the Eiffel Tower, he stopped and looked at me. "There's something I need to tell you, Yelena, something you're not going to like." I could remember his voice plain as day. I remember his voice feeling like honey running down my skin. Sweet but awfully sticky. I couldn't shake it off. It felt so wrong.
I looked into his eyes, and I had shivered. "What is it?" I replied, trying to keep my voice controlled.
He grabbed my hands in his. In a very shameful voice, he told me, "I'm a vampire Yelena, I was sent here to charm you." He looked at me, his eyes sparkling.
"But it seems that it has been me that has been charmed." His eyes were changing from green to red. "I was sent to find you, to kill you, Clive wishes you and your family dead." A deadly smile spread across his face as if he enjoyed putting fear into my mind.
He kept going, "We're not alone here Yelena, I do not wish to kill you, I have to scare you enough for them to believe that I'm going to kill you." He moved closer into my body, slowly leaning down to whisper in my ear. "Your father paid me off, more money than Clive gave me to kill you; your father gave me this."
He was talking so fast I didn't realize that he actually had something in his hand. He handed me a syringe, a small vial, and a letter, on the front was my father's handwriting. I backed away, looking at him, confused and scared.
He continued to smile his deadly smile. "I am sorry about this, Yelena, but I think I might have to kill you, no matter how much money I was paid on either end, just because I don't want to die." He said to me, showing me his fangs.
I realized at that moment that he meant every word. He was going to kill me. He licked his fangs and continued, "You see, I am a very selfish person, when I know my own life is in danger, I will sacrifice anyone in my way."
My eyes were wide with fear, but I finally got the courage enough to walk away from him. As scared and nieve I was, I decided that he wouldn't hurt me.
As I was walked away from him, two other vampires moved out in front of me to stop me. He grabbed my shoulder and turned me around. All I felt was knuckles hitting my jaw, and I was on the ground in a second. He kicked me while I was still down. Much to my surprise, Kiah was right there by my side.
His voice was like a waking call, smooth and friendly. "Yelena," he said quietly next to my ear, "you're safe now." I felt like I had woken from a nightmare. I knew he was right. I was safe in the protection of his arms.
