"Of course not. Why would you even think that, Nathan?" I responded to his question about rekindling anything with Garrett, though I couldn't stop the slight hesitation in my voice.
The memory of Garrett's possessive grip on my waist earlier that evening still lingered on my skin. I pushed the thought away firmly.
Nathan's deep chuckle came through the phone. "Well, I've encountered your ex-mate twice recently, and both times the Future Alpha seemed unusually invested in your situation. Almost... protective."
