Chapter 56: Ambush
(Luke's POV)
I slammed the SUV door shut behind me, instantly on high alert. The blinding headlights created harsh shadows across the road, making it difficult to assess the full threat. My hand tightened around my combat knife as I moved forward cautiously.
Something felt wrong. Very wrong. The vehicles were positioned too perfectly to be a random encounter. This was a planned ambush.
I kept my voice low, calling back to Miss Eliza, "Stay inside. Lock the doors."
My wolf senses heightened, picking up multiple heartbeats beyond the glare of the headlights. Too many for comfort.
