A battlecruiser waited in the distance, silhouetted against the glare of the Leyrian sun, its nose pointed off to his left as the Scrappy approached its port side. The enemy’s guns fired streaks of green light toward him. But those weren’t the real problem. Drones clustered around the Ragnosian ship, forming a clump that blocked his path. And they fired upon him as well. Blazing, emerald sparks came soaring toward him. He had to resist the urge to leap out of the way. Shinela did her job without the need for him to give an order. The Scrappy slid upward, and those plasma bursts raced past under Jack’s feet. “Return fire!” he barked, his heart thundering in his chest.
