*Day 31. Thursday.*
*9:00am. 33 hours until Friday 6pm.*
4.5k in the house. House is safe.
Injunction in hand.
And Mr. Kato’s last text: `I take payment in blood.`
Jimmy couldn’t lift his arm above his shoulder.
But he could talk.
"We’re not going to container 14 to die," Jimmy said.
"We’re going to end this."
Hassan was at their house. In jeans this time. No suit.
"Police won’t do another trap," he said. "Not after the wire failed."
"Then we make our own," Jimmy said.
*The Plan: Legal + Public*
*Step 1: Document Everything*
Hassan gave Jimmy a small voice recorder. "Old school. Can’t be hacked."
"Wear it under your shirt. Over the ribs."
"Hurts," Jimmy said.
"Pain is evidence," Hassan said.
*Step 2: Witnesses*
"We’re not going alone," Alex said.
"3 people," Hassan said. "Me. You. And one DPC officer. Off duty.
He’ll be in a car 100 meters away. No sirens. No uniforms."
*Step 3: The Bait*
"We tell Mr. Kato we have part of the money," Jimmy said.
"100k. From selling everything."
"It’s a lie," Jessica said.
"It’s a legal lie," Hassan said. "To get him to admit extortion on tape."
*Step 4: The Media*
"I called a reporter," Hassan said. "From NTV.
She’ll be at Clock Tower at 5:30. If we’re not out by 6:15, she runs the story."
Jessica was shaking. "What if he hurts you before police come?"
"That’s why we have the injunction," Jimmy said. "He touches me, he goes back to jail."
*2:00pm. Practice*
They practiced in the sitting room.
Jimmy: "Boss, I have 100k. Can we talk?"
Hassan as Mr. Kato: "Bring it. Alone."
Jimmy: "I have my lawyer with me. Court said I can."
Again. Again. Until Jimmy could say it without crying.
*6:00pm. The Call*
Jimmy dialed. Hands shaking. Ribs screaming.
"Hello?" Mr. Kato.
"Boss," Jimmy said. "I have 100k."
Silence. "Where did you get it?"
"I sold things," Jimmy said. "It’s all I have.
Can we meet? Container 14. 5pm tomorrow."
"6pm," Mr. Kato said. "And come alone."
"I have my lawyer," Jimmy said. "Court injunction.
He has to be there or I can’t pay."
Long pause.
"Fine," Mr. Kato said. "Bring the lawyer.
But if I see police, I burn everything."
Click.
Jimmy dropped the recorder. "He bought it."
"He bought it," Hassan said.
*8:00pm. Jessica Breaks*
Jessica hadn’t spoken for 2 hours.
Now she was crying in the kitchen.
"I can’t lose you," she said.
"You won’t," Jimmy said.
"How do you know?" she screamed. "He has knives! He has men!"
Jimmy held her with his good arm. "Because we’re not the same boys from Day 1.
We have papers. We have police. We have a story.
If he touches me, the whole country will know his name."
Jessica nodded into his chest.
"Come back to me," she whispered.
"I will," Jimmy said.
*Day 32. Friday.*
*10:00am. 8 hours to go.*
They didn’t sleep.
Packed one bag. Birth certificates. Court papers. 4.5k.
Hassan came with the DPC officer. Name: Officer Kato. No relation.
"He’s good," Hassan said. "Ex-military."
*3:00pm. Leaving.*
Jessica prayed over them.
"Psalm 23," she said. "The Lord is my shepherd."
Jimmy kissed her forehead. "Watch the news at 6:15."
Boda to Katwe.
Alex drove. Jimmy behind. Hassan in front.
Officer Kato followed 2 blocks behind in a grey Toyota.
*4:50pm. Container 14.*
Same rust. Same smell.
But different this time.
Mr. Kato was there. Alone.
No Brian. No 2 men.
Just him. And a knife on the table.
"Where’s the money?" Mr. Kato asked.
Jimmy put the bag down. Opened it.
Bundles of old notes. 100k. Real.
"This is all I have," Jimmy said. Voice clear.
Recorder running under his shirt.
Mr. Kato laughed. "100k? You owe 1.2M!"
"I know," Jimmy said. "But court said you can’t touch me.
Injunction. So I’m paying what I can."
Mr. Kato picked up the knife.
"You think paper stops me?"
He stepped forward.
100 meters away, Officer Kato’s hand went to his radio.
5pm.
Camera rolling from a window across the street.
Reporter waiting at Clock Tower.
Jimmy looked at Mr. Kato.
Looked at the knife.
Looked at the recorder light blinking under his shirt.
"Say it again," Jimmy said.
"Say what you said in the text."
Mr. Kato smiled. "I said I’ll take payment in blood."
Click.
Got it.
*5:01pm.*
Mr. Kato raised the knife.
Outside, car doors opened.
"POLICE! DROP THE WEAPON!"
Mr. Kato froze.
This time, there was no escape.
