Chapter 29: The Pull

224 Words
Kali didn’t go to the station. She went to the café. Because that’s where things made sense. Or at least— Made more sense. The bell chimed as she stepped inside Impresso Espresso. Everything looked the same. And completely different. Kids ran across the play area. Laughter filled the room. The smell of coffee and sugar wrapped around her like memory. But underneath it— Something pulled at her. She moved automatically. Straight to the back booth. Ryan was already there. Jojo not far behind. Nathan arriving seconds later. No one asked why she came. They already knew. Kali sat down slowly. Her hand pressed against her chest. “…He’s alive,” she said. The words hit instantly. Ryan leaned forward. “You’re sure?” Kali nodded. “I can feel him.” A beat. “And he’s not alone.” Jojo’s expression shifted. “What does that mean?” Kali swallowed. “It means… something found him.” Silence. Around them— Life continued. Kids playing. Coffee being poured. People laughing. And at their table— Everything changed. Nathan spoke carefully. “Is it Syndicate?” Kali’s eyes darkened slightly. “…Yes.” 🔚 Final Beat Across time— Zella held the baby tighter. And for the first time— The baby turned his head. Not toward her. Toward something else. Something coming.
