Chapter 2

Em “We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” I said to the thief, who was tied up to a chair. “The easy way is by telling me where the money is, or the hard way, where I torture you by pulling out your fingernails, then breaking every finger, and maybe cut them off. I haven’t decided yet.” “P-please don’t,” he whined. I groaned a little. I hate it when they whine and beg. I like the ones that gives me a little fight, it makes it interesting. “Come on Kenny. It’s your decision. Either tell me where you put Tanaka’s money or I’ll get it out of you. You should be lucky that I’m giving you a decision. I don’t usually do that. So, what’s it going to be?” Kenny kept his mouth shut, but I see his chin trembling. Kenny was a sleaze and can easily break. He stole millions from Tanaka, a boss for the Yakuza’s. After Kenny stole the money, he tucked tail and ran trying to hide. Tanaka sent his men after him, but failed to find him. So, I was hired to find Kenny, get the money back, and kill him. I found Kenny, it was easy-the i***t left a trail and I followed. Now, here we are in an abandoned warehouse where I’m about to torture him. “Why did you steal the money, Kenny?” I asked. He kept quiet glaring at me like he wants to hurt me. Oh, he’s trying to be tough now. Now, we’re getting somewhere. I sat in front of him and eyed him. “Did you decide that you didn’t want to work and decided to steal money from the Yakuza clan? You are so lazy. Go find a job if you need money.” I mean seriously. Need money? Go and get a job, don’t steal. I mean sure he stole money from the Yakuza who made money illegally, but at least they worked for it. The same goes for me. I’m an assassin and I earn money differently than normal people, but I work for it. I work extremely hard to get noticed by important people to hire me and being a woman, I am a success. I make great money with what I do, it may not be honest work, but it's work. “Well, since you’re not going to talk, I guess it will be the hard way,” I say, smiling because this was my favorite part. The torture. I grab a set of pliers and took his left hand. I put the pliers on top of one of his fingernails and started to peel off his nail. His scream echoed throughout the warehouse, and it brings music to my ears. The nail came off and I went to the second finger. “Stop! I’ll tell you, please!” Kenny cried out. As I thought, he breaks easily. Damn it! I made it too easy. I should have tortured him a different way. “Alright, where’s the money?” I asked. “In a bank account. I can wire the money back to Tanaka’s account, all $250 million.” “Damn! You stole that much,” I exclaimed. “That’s a death sentence waiting to happen.” I walked over to my laptop and asked for Kenny’s bank information. And here it was, $250 million dollars just sitting there. I took out my phone and called Tanaka. Tanaka. “Boss Tanaka, its Sawyer. I found your money and I need your bank information to wire the money.” Here it is. He gave me everything and I transferred the money back to his account. “Did you receive it, sir?” Yes, everything has been transferred. Is Kenny still alive? “For now. Would you like me to strangle him, shoot me, or torture him? I’ll let you decide.” Shoot him. I want it done and I want to hear it. “Of course.” Well, that’s no fun. Just shoot him, that’s it? I went over to Kenny and pointed a gun at his head. He started to weep and tears rolled down his face. What a baby. Without a second thought, I pulled the trigger and Kenny’s head received a hole. “It’s done.” Good. Thank you for your help, Sawyer. I have wired your money. “It’s not a problem. Happy to be of help. If you need my services again, you know how to contact me.” I hanged up and check my account. $50 million has been wired to me and a big grin spread across my face. I’m high in demand and to use my services, you gotta pay big. I love getting paid big money. For one reason, it helped pays for my little sister’s education. I sent her to private schools so she can have the best education and be accepted into the best university when she goes to college and she did. Sara got a full ride to Princeton and I’ve never been so proud. Sara graduated first in high school and when she told me about Princeton, I couldn’t contain my excitement. We both worked hard to get where we’re at and it wasn’t easy. I didn’t want Sara to live the life I lead, she’s too good and pure to do what I do. Ever since our parents died, I took it as my responsibility to give my little sister everything and I did. With the money I was making, I gave Sara birthday parties she wanted, swimming lessons, and hell, even horseback riding lessons. I never denied her anything, sure I spoiled her, but luckily, she wasn’t a spoiled brat. Sara was grateful for the things I’ve done for her. She thanked me for every gift I gave her. Her emerald eyes would always sparkle and her red hair would bounce excitedly as she jumped up and down. I may not have the honest job in the world, but at least I was able to provide for my sister. I wonder how she’s doing in school. I haven’t talked to her in a month and that’s how it goes when I’m on a job. I just send her money for food and rent and anything else she needs. We don’t talk when I work because I need to focus and it was how I protect her. Sara knows what I do, but she doesn’t know the details and I want to keep it that way. Once I get rid of Kenny’s body, I can talk to her and maybe visit her at school. I try not to see her as much just in case my enemies follow me. I do miss my sister, but before I can call her and see how she’s doing, I need to get rid of Kenny. I picked up my phone and dialed a number. Yeah? “I need a cleaner.” No. “It’s Sawyer.” Where? “1501 Morris Ave. A warehouse. I’ll be waiting.” I hung up before he could respond. Cleaners these days think they’re too good, but once they are afraid of you, they will do whatever you want. The cleaner, George and his team, are afraid of me. Once I say my name, they will drop whatever they are doing and come to me. As I waited for George, I stared at Kenny and the blood oozing from his head, his slumped body, and hands tied to the chair arms. What an easy job this was and I made bank. All the money I earn, I save for when I retire and who knows when that will be. I’m on a roll and I don’t expect to quit soon. George finally arrives with his team following behind him. They get to work cleaning the area of Kenny’s body making sure there was no blood spots, no hair, or anything else and made the body disappear. I gather up my tools and went to George. I examined the area and it looks like no one was tortured here. I nodded my approval and handed George $10,000 in cash. He nodded his thanks and carefully and slowly stepped away from me, then quickly left-almost running. As I got to my car, my phone rings. I looked at it and didn’t recognize the number. I answered anyway because it could be another job. “Hello?” Em. “Sara?” I leaned against my car and hold the phone close to my ear. “What number is this? This isn’t the number I gave you.” I know. It’s my um…boyfriend’s, she said quietly. “Oh?” This was the first time I heard of a boyfriend. Well, as long as he attends school and gets a good job, and treat her right who am I to stand in her way? Yeah, we’ve been together for a while now and I really love him. Her voice seemed off and it made me a little worried. “Sara, is everything alright? Did something happen? Do I need to beat someone up?” She gave a little laugh at my last question because she knows I’ll actually do it. But still, I don’t like the way she’s sounding. “Sara,” I say gently. “What’s wrong?” Em, I’ve been lying to you for close to a year now. I straighten up because I know what she’s going to say next will anger me. Em, I dropped out of school. I nearly dropped my phone. “Come again?” I say in a low and threatening voice. She hears it and whimpers a little. I’m so sorry Em. I know how hard you worked to give me the best education, but I fell in love and I didn’t want to attend anymore. Jax is good to me, he takes care of me, and makes me happy. “What the hell kind of name is Jax?” I growled. I can’t believe this. Sara gave up a tuition-free education to Princeton to be with a man named Jax. Who names their kid that? Jax is…he’s a... he’s… “He’s what?” I growled again. He’s part of the Devil Saints MC. “You’ve got to be kidding me?” Of all the things I’ve done to keep her away from my lifestyle, she goes and hooks up with a guy from a motorcycle club. Seriously?! I’m furious. I know you’re angry- I can hear it in your voice- but we’ll talk about it later. “No, we’ll talk about it now.” Em, there is something else you need to know. Oh, great. More tragedy to hear. Sis, my life has been threatened. “I’m on my way,” I say immediately, hanging up. I got in my car and sped off. I may be angry right now, but I know one thing: no one threatens my baby sister.
