Chapter 4

522 Words
Em Once, I said goodbye to Sara, Jax and I got in my car and drove off. It’s been an awkward two-hour silence. It got so quiet that I had to turn on the radio. I usually drive in silence, but not this time. I knew where I’m driving to. When Sara told me about the dead roses, I knew exactly who sent them, but I needed to be sure. Ramona was like me, a killer, but when she hunts someone, she wants you to know that she’s coming. She will send you dead roses, her M.O. But I heard that she has retired. I need to be sure before I kill someone by accident. I don’t need that on my conscience again. I did that before. I killed someone by mistake, and it almost ruined me, not professionally, but emotionally. I need information to know for sure that she’s back in the game. “Where are we going?” Jax asked. I ignored him. I don’t like to talk and drive at the same time. I’ve always been like that since I was old enough to drive. When I drove Sara around, I would give her something to do in the car, so I can focus on the road. Plus, I tend to drive a little slower when I have people in the car. “Are you going to tell me?” he asked. Still, I remained focused on the road. “So, what is Em short for? Sara never said.” Oh my god. Was he a talker? He didn’t look like one. He looks like he remains quiet while he watches his surroundings. “Fine, don’t say anything. It’s probably a boring name anyway, like Emily or Emma or Emmy. Who names their kid Emmy anyway?” I rolled my eyes at him and getting to the point where I can’t stand the talking. So, I had to break my own rules. “Listen, I don’t like talking while I’m driving. I don’t even listen to the radio either. I like silence. So, all I’m going to say is that we’re going to a place that will give me information about the dead roses. I have a hunch. So, until we get there…shut up.” And that’s how it goes for the next five hours, complete and utter silence…and it was peaceful and relaxing. I enjoyed the silence even with a handsome stranger sitting next to me. I have to have silence ever since my parents died. I need the silence. It’s the only way to listen for your enemies. We finally made it to the rural parts of Georgia on the outskirts of Atlanta. I turned onto a dirt road that led to a ranch. One side was horses and on the other cattle. I love coming here, and it’s the best place to get guns. In the front yard were four kids playing and when they saw my car they started to wave their arms frantically and were jumping excitedly. Then the front door opened, and a middle-aged man stepped out, hopefully with the information I need.
