Chapter 10

2001 Words
I started to walk towards the lunchroom, alone. All by myself. No one was with me. Scott and Stiles weren't here, yet, and neither was Allison. I doubt that Lydia will be coming today, because yesterday she didn't feel so well. Scarlet, Karen, and Bryson didn't want to have breakfast today, so right now it's just me... ''Hi Penny!'' four different voices said from behind me. I immediately recognized them as I turned around replying, ''Hey guys'' I looked at the four girls in front of me. They were some of the most popular girls in school. But don't worry, they're not bad people. They're very nice and funny. Lauren, the girl with the gorgeous eyes. She has long, brown hair, and silver eyes that were almost white. Lucy, the girl with one of the most highest grades in school. She has olive skin, and short black hair in a fierce pixie style that matched her perfectly. Roxanne, our nickname for her is Merida, due to her curly, red hair, and those amazing red lips. She looks like a doll. And last but not least, Olivia, the sporty girl. She has blonde hair and emerald green eyes. She's amazing in every sport. I smiled at the bunch and asked polietly, ''Need anything?" ''Well, we know next week's your birthday'' Lauren said. ''So, we bought you a present'' Roxanne finished. ''Here you go'' Olivia said handing me a red vevlvet box. ''Awwww, you guys, you didn't have to'' I said smiling. ''But we wanted to'' Lucy said. ''Yeah, since you're a good friend of ours. We couldn't wait until your birthday to give it to you'' Olivia added as I opened the box, and when I did I saw the most beautiful silver locket ever. I gasped. ''Oh my God, I always wanted one of these. Thank you so much!'' ''You're welcome'' they said in unison, grinning from ear to ear. ''We'll be leaving now. We'll see you around, Penny'' ''Okay. Bye, guys!'' I said The are sure good people. Seriously, I when I first saw them I thought that they were really mean girls, but then I got to know them better and realized that they weren't bad. In fact, they're one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Suddenly, I automatically stopped walking. My eyes moved from the locket to the wall full of pictures and trophies of past students. I smiled as I saw a picture of my dad playing basketball. Mum told me that he was sure a superstar at basketball. No one wonder Bryson's so good at it. Then I saw a picture of mum. She was a swimmer. Maybe that's why we like water so much. I sighed, admiring my loving parents. I look so much like mum when she was younger. It's like seeing myself on the picture. And it's like seeing a female Bryson!! On the other hand, Karen looks so much like dad. Only she's a girl and has red hair.... My eyes automatically landed on a photo of another guy I didn't know. But at the same time he looked familiar, like I've seen him somewhere. But I couldn't make out where... Wait a minute... His name!!! Now I remember!! He's....... He's.... Peter Hale. Young Peter Hale. I gasped quietly as I eyed the picture. Then all of a sudden, I get a feeling that someone's in danger. A specific person that I know so well..... "Lydia" Lydia was in danger, I could feel it. But why? How did I know that Lydia was in danger? How do I know if it's even real? What if it isn't? But, something deep inside me screams Lydia's name. And I can't just stand here and wait for somthing to happen... I knocked on the door a few times, impatiently. After Scott arrived at school I told him that I would go and check on Lydia for a moment. He told me that he would cover for me, so now I'm here waiting for the door to be opened... Finally, it did. There was Mrs. Martin looking terrified. "Penny, I'm sorry but I don't think it's a good time for-" "Is Lydia okay?" I cut her off. She was at the verge of tears as she shook her head and whispered, "No" Now I was extremely worried. Now I knew that something, indeed, happened to Lydia. But what? "Can I see her?" "I don't think it's-" "Please Mrs. Martin, I need to," I pleaded her. "Just for a moment" She looked doubtful at first, but eventually she nodded and let me into her house. I quickly went upstairs, towards Lydia's room. When I did I gasped loudly. The bed covers were full of blood, almost everything was out of place, and the mirror was broken. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. Lydia came out of her bathroom a few seconds later looking confused and scared at the same time, cuts all over her wrists. I quickly walked towards her. "Lydia, what happened here?" Her mouth opened a little and it stayed like that for a moment before she replied, "I don't know" "You don't know?" "I don't know," she repeated. "Mum woke me up and my wrists were all cut and my mirror was broken. I just.... I just don't remember what happened" I grabbed her hands eyeing her cut wrists. Then all of a sudden she started to cry. I didn't do anything but to hug her and whisper comforting things. It was the only thing I could do right now. I didn't know what to say, I didn't know what to do, we just stood there hugging each other, like sisters do. ~~~~~~~~~~~ "I'll be back later, mum!" I called. Okay, see you later!" she called back. I was about to open the door when I realized that I didn't have my phone. "Crap" I hissed as I turned around and went to my room. When I reached the door of my room I extended my hand to open it, when I heard Karen's voice coming from inside. ''Shorty get down, good Lord Baby got 'em up open all over town Strictly biz, she don't play around Cover much ground, got game by the pound Getting paid is a forte Each and every day, true player way I can't get her out of my mind I think about the girl all the time East side to the west side Pushing phat rides, it's no surprise She got tricks in the stash Stacking up the cash Fast when it comes to the gas By no means average She's on when she's got to have it Baby, you're a perfect ten, I wanna get in Can I get down, so I can win I like the way you work it No diggity, I got to bag it up, bag it up-'' She immediately stopped singing when I entered the room. Her eyes widden as I grinned at her. "What?" she asked. "You have an amazing voice" I said. She huffed. "So?" "Why are you so shy? You could get far with that voice of yours" And it was true. Karen has an amazing voice, but she's too shy to show it. It's funny 'cause she's not shy around people, only when it comes to singing. "You really think that?" "No, thinking is what you do when you're about to take a test or answer a question. I KNOW it" I said smiling, making her chuckle. "That's my line!" "I guess it is" I said and we both started to laugh. Then I remebered... I HAD TO MEET SCOTT!!!! I quickly grabbed my phone that was on my bed, and headed to the door as I said, "I'll see you later Karen" I entered my car and breathed fog on the window. 9:00PM appeared. I looked at my phone. It was now 8:55. I had time... well, not so much. But I still could make it. "I can make it" I said to myself. I sighed as I looked to my side, and when I did I almost had a heart attack when I saw Gerard standing there. What was he doing here? He motioned me to get out of the car, and so I did. Confused I asked, "Can I help you?" He smiled at me. "I just wanted to talk to my granddaughter" "Well, why didn't you talk with Allison?" Maybe he felt offended by what I just said, 'cause a frown replaced his smile. I swear that I didn't mean to be rude! "I'm sorry. It's just that i'm...I'm meeting someone and i'm kinda late" Once again, a small smile appeared on his face. "It's okay. This won't take long" He reached for his jacket pocket and a leather bound book fell out of it. I quickly kneeled and took the book in my hands, eyeing it curiously. Weird. This book looks like the one in my charm bracelet... "Thank you. I'd be lost without it" he said grabbing the book. I gave a small smile looking at my feet as he took a handful of pills into his mouth. "I take a cocktail of pharmaceuticals three times a day" he explained. I nodded in understanding, but it was barely noticeable. Then after a few seconds I spoke, "Soo.... What was it that you wanted to tell me?" Suddenly he looked serious. "Penny, I'm not going to ask you to forgive us, because I know that still haven't forgiven your father-" "Chris" I corrected. I feel very uncomfortable with the word "father" when it comes to Chris. He nodded before continuing. "Very well. Anyways, now that you know that we're your family I want you to trust us in everything. That's all I'm asking" "But I don't know you guys that well. Allison's the one I know better" I said. "I know, I know. But I just feel that we should have trust between each other. I don't want you to think that we're some sort of strangers" he said, chuckling at the last part. I chuckled a little, even though I didn't want to. Just being with him makes me feel scared, I don't know why. There's something about him that makes me feel uncomfortable, like he's hiding something. But like he said, we're............... fa............ fa............. family... All of a sudden he tucked a strain of hair behind my ear. "You remind me so much of Kate" I looked at him as it he were nuts. Is he kidding me???!! I look NOTHING like Kate!!! But I wasn't going to say anything about it, so I just smiled weakly and shrugged a little. "Penny, can I trust you?" he asked out of nowhere. I don't see why not. Unsure of what to say, I nodded a little as I muttered "yeah". But he didn't seem to like my answer because then he shouted, "YES OR NO?" This took me by surprise, and it made me jump a little. I did not see that coming... I got so scared with Gerard's attitude that I automatically answered, "Yes" This time he gave me a satisfied smile. "Good. I'll see you some other time" And with those last words, he left. I stood there staring at his back. Well, that was weird... After that weird conversation with Gerard I reached the forest. I was still wondering what Scott wanted to show me. He never told me what it was, so it's all really mysterious... I didn't find Scott. Instead, I found a note etched in chalk on a rock. It said: HAD TO PICK UP STILES. COULDN'T WAIT. MISS U So, I lost the opportunity to find out what Scott was so mysterious about? That's just bad luck. And it was all Gerard's fault. If he didn't come to my house and talk to me I would've been here earlier. I sighed in frustration as I went back to my car. "Darn it!!"
