Episode 5: Cash

Thursday 19th August. Bella's home

Bella got out of her car after sitting there for almost an hour now. She had been thinking where to get a larger sum of money at a go. She thought about asking Alex what she meant when she said she knew how but she thought it was a bad idea .

She went into the house. John was watching a baseball game and did not even hear when Bella told him she was back. Bella went to her room and sat on her bed deep in thoughts.

' what if I ask her for a bigger cash? Would she understand? Or maybe she'll just see me as a nuisance? We've not even been friends for a week. What is wrong with me! Or am I just a bit more of a gold digger? What am I thinking?'

She threw herself face-down on the bed. Still she had extremely many thoughts rushing in her head. Suddenly, her phone started to ring. At first , she did not want to pick it but she turned to atleast see who had been calling. When she saw the name Alex pop up on the screen, she decided to pick her call.

“Hello, Alex.“ She began in a low tone.

“What's up, Bella.“ Came Alex's voice from the other side. Bella noticed how Alex sounded unsure of something.

“Am kinda good.“ Bella replied though she knew she was lying.

“hmm why did you say kinda.“

“Who am I kidding am not good Alex I can't say am good”

“Okay deal with your stuff Bella then meet me at Kinley's.“

Bella sighed then told her,” okay.“

“And be quick “, Alex said this and hang up the phone.

Bella threw her phone on the bed and dropped herself dissapointed. She thought that she could get time to talk to Alex. She became unsure of what she was supposed to tell her but still she knew she had to atleast try.

Bella stood from the bed looked at herself in the mirror and sighed. She went to the bathroom and took a bath then clad in a black dress and a dark magenta hood. She took her car keys and went off she met John in the kitchen, pecked his cheek and told him she'd be back.

2:13 pm Thursday 19th August

Bella got off her car and walked to the glass entry door of Kinley restaurant. She pushed the door and it rang a small bell at the top. She did not even search for Alex for she had taken the seat that was near the entrance.

“Faster than I expected,Bella.“ Said Alex with a bright face.

Bella pulled the other seat and sat looking at Alex.

“Huh. Another race?“

“No. A lot better than that. Some guys need a get away.“ Said Alex as she looked at Bella.

A mass of questions slammed her mind then she looked at Alex and said what came to her mouth first.

“How much are they giving us?“

“That's my girl. They have eight hundred and fifty thousand but we can talk about it.“

“Okay am in where do we get them.“

“We first get the van downtown.“

“Van!“ Asked Bella surprised.

“Yeah van. Someone may know your wheels Bel.“

“Okay. When are they making the move?“

“Tonight. And you'll drive.“

10:25 pm Thursday 19th August

Bella and Alex sat in the van in an alley behind Talon bank. The place they had been told that the goons would be at ten thirty. They had arrived earlier and parked the car there hoping no one would notice them. They had the advantage of a shadow cast by a street light plus their van was black so no one easily noticed.

Bella sat on the driver's seat leaning forward to the steering wheel while Alex sat at the passenger's seat. Bella noticed Alex staring at her though she did not turn her head. Bella could see her scoping her out .

“What?“ Bella asked her as she turned suddenly.

“You…” before Alex said what was in mind, several gunshots were heard then two guys came fast from a door in front of the van. They had two bags each and they hurriedly came and put the bags at the back of the van. One of them went back in the bank.

“Start the damn van.“ The other shouted and Bella started the van. The other goons came holding one of them who looked injured. The three entered the back of the van and Bella started driving. Some guards tried to block her way while shooting at the vehicle but Bella forced her way past them.

“Just follow the trail on the map.“ One of the goons told her.

Bella looked at the dash screen and followed the green line that showed her lead. She had not drove for long before the police sirens caught them.

“Crap you raised alarm.“ Said Alex as she turned to face the goons.

“ Look what you did Jay!“ Said one of the goons then the rest started talking indistinctively .

Bella sighed and focused on the road. She looked at the map and tried to look for a getaway route. She turned the van left then pulled the handbrake. The vans tires screeched and smoked then she turned left so that the van entered the incoming lane from the out going lane. She zoomed past and passed the police cars which were in the other lane still trying to get to the incoming lane. By doing that she bought time to find somewhere dark enough to hide the van till the police had gone.

They hid in a parking lot for some minutes till the could no longer hear the police sirens then drove to the destination marked on the dash screen.

It was an abandoned warehouse at the edge of the city. They entered and parked the van. The place was quiet and no one was there.

They got out of the van. The goons had already fixed the one who had been shot on his thigh though he couldn't walk well.

“You really saved us there.“ Said the guy who was shot.

“We want just one point five million” Alex said as she looked at the guy with blonde hair.

“you know I can't give you that.“ Replied the guy.

“Deal has changed Brian.“

“What the hell are you talking about!“

“The deal was you go loot the money and get out without raising alarm.“

“Yeah that was the deal.“

“You didn't say anything about police chase so pay up.“

“ f**k and it's all your fault Jay.“

“ I'm sorry man. I did what I had to do.“

Bella just looked at them as they started shouting at each other.

“Give them their damn money Brian.“ The guy with the bullet injury said .

Brian took one of the bags and threw at Bella.

“How will we know it's all the money?“ Bella asked.

“ Even I don't know it might be more.“ Said Brian in an angry tone.

Alex took the bag and looked at Bella.“ It was nice doing business with you boys.“ She said then mouthed at Bella indicating that they should leave.

Bella peddled backward then turned and they went away.

11:51 pm Thursday 19th August

“One point seven nine million I guess that's business.“ Alex told Bella and they both chuckled.

“ Good business.“ Said Bella then she laughed. Alex did not do anything on this one but she only stared at Bella.

They were in Alex's place and they had placed all the money everywhere in her bedroom. Alex was deep in thought.

“What Alex. Why are you staring at me?“ Said Bella as she chuckled.

“Nothing just can't believe this is us. “ Said Alex as she looked away.
