Carmelo spent every night looking for Tina. He wasn’t ready to give up on her, but he didn’t know what to do. He’d gone to her house, but her mother refused to let him see her. He was getting desperate.
He was also working. He wasn’t good enough for her as far as her family was concerned, but he wasn’t going to stop working and live on the streets. He had to keep working, keep earning, keep trying.
He and Joey took the truck into town for supplies. Joey was bugging him for the last week about his attitude, but Carmelo refused to tell him what was going on. Joey guessed it was about a woman, but Carmelo wouldn’t say anything. Just in case, he wasn’t willing to rock the boat.
