Chapter 1 Evan Barton, That's Your Child!

975 Words
Chapter 1 Evan Barton, it was YOUR Child! Cold. That was all she felt. She was lying on the cold operating table, her consciousness slowly clearing up from the dazzling light in the room. Her eyes flickered open, and she curled herself into a ball. The pain in her lower abdomen reminded her of what had just happened... "Child... my child..." She sobbed, tears falling down her cheeks and sinking into the pillow. Squeak. The door was opened and a man slowly came in. A tall, handsome but ruthless man. His steps were steady, and the light danced over his body, leaving a blurred silhouette on the floor. Evan Barton towered over Cara Penn, his eyes intensely dark. "I see you're awake. Get up and walk then! No one's driving you." Those lips of his looked so soft and charming, but the words coming out of it were so cold blooded. Cara put her hand on her belly and just stared at him, hoping beyond hope to catch a trace of guilt and grief on his face, but... NOTHING. "Evan Barton, that's YOUR child! Have you no heart?" Her voice cracked as she asked this. She looked so sad that anyone in his sane mind could feel her pain. Except one person. Evan Barton. Hearing this accusation, there was a moment when Evan seemed to feel his heart clench, but he pushed the feeling aside and sneered. "How dare you call that filthy blood of yours mine! Cara Penn, you're nothing but a vain w***e. You'll not be allowed to carry my child!" "Let me make this clear," he pulled closer and gripped Cara's chin: "Don't test my patience again, or I don't mind throwing you and your digusting lover into the ocean!" Cara's face turned pale. "I didn't... what can I do to make you believe me... I've never betrayed you..." Her eyes were red, and there was a sense of helplessness about her that made this scene hard to watch. "The child is really yours... Why won't you believe me..." Smack! Before she finished the words, Evan back handed her across her face. She was already very weak from the miscarriage. This attack caused a dizziness, and for a moment, she couldn't hear anything. "b***h! Stop lying to me!" Evan stared down at her. In the heat of the moment, he yanked her arm, causing her to fall from the bed. "Ah..." A scream of pain escaped her lips. She felt so much pain, especially in the place where there was a baby... "It hurts, doesn't it?" Evan looked down at her. "You brought this on yourself, when you decided to betray me!" "Don't think for a minute this is over. I will get my revenge, little by little." Evan whispered these last words into her ears, and left the room. "Evan..." Cara stared after him. She stretched out her hand to reach him, but no longer had the strength. Lying on the ground, her breath grew heavy, and her body began to tremble from the coldness. She curled up in a vain attempt to warm herself. Blood flowed out between her legs and soon stained her dress as well as the floor. After a long time, when Cara thought she was going to die, a nurse finally came and found her on the ground, quickly helped her up and laid her down. The warmth of the quilt eased the coldness of her body. Cara indulged in it and didn't wake up until it was dark. Ding. Her cellphone rang up, and Cara quickly answered it. "Hello..." "Miss Penn, something bad happened! The inspectors found contraband in our products, and the company was suspended from business..." "What?" Cara was stunned, but she suddenly remembered Evan's words before he left. Evan, was this your doing? "Miss Penn, what should we do? Now everyone is in panic. Our customers have come to seek justice! And our staff are pressing us to pay them and threatening to quit!" "Miss Penn, where are you? We haven't seen you for two days, and there are rumors that you left with all the company's money..." Hearing no reply, the man shouted: "Miss Penn? Miss Penn, are you listening? Miss Penn?" Cara snapped out of her thoughts and replied: "I'm listening. Please try to make them calm down. I'll come up with a solution!" "Okay, but please hurry up, I can't handle it for any longer..." Cara hung up, her hand gripping the phone so hard that her knuckles turned white. Her baby was gone. So were all the symptoms of pregnancy. Cara fought back the tears, and left the hospital. It was nightfall when Cara arrived at Barton's house. Cara went in and saw Evan sitting on the sofa. She tried to lighten her steps as much as she could, for fear of disturbing him. But when she heard what he said, her face was drained out of color. "You did a good job about Penn Enterprise!" Evan was speaking when he caught a glimpse of Cara at the door, his face darkened. Evan growled at Cara: "Why are you back late? Where the hell have you been, hooking up with another filthy lover of yours?!" He walked over to Cara in two strides. "Went to see your lover right after miscarriage? Cara Penn, are you that cheap and slutty?" Cara's lips trembled. She looked up at him with disappointment and disbelief. "Evan Barton, why did you become like this?" The Evan she knew used to be so tender and loving...He would spoil her, pull her in his arms, and envision their future... "Why did I become like this? Ask yourself!" Evan wrapped his hand around her neck, narrowed his eyes and said in a deep voice: "Has it been so long, that you forgot what you had done?"
