She turned it over thinking it was just a clever imitation of the original sapphire but her great grandmother’s initials carved at the back and the scratch by the side caused by her attempt to inscribe her own initial beside her great-grandmother’s, convinced her that she was now in possession of her mother’s sapphire. She pinched her cheeks to check whether she was dreaming making Joseph laugh softly at her theatrics.
