The moment the call from the police came through, Rose was in a state of panic.
She had just spoken to Pierre, what could have happened? Had he been arrested? For what? With these thoughts in mind, she requested the cab driver to take her to the police department, her purse held tightly in her hands, her back stiff and her legs shaking, unable to stay still.
She almost forgot to pay the cab driver as she shot out of the cab the moment the car halted and had to walk back the dozen steps she had already walked towards the police department to pay him. She gave him a fifty dollar note but did not wait for her change, feeling it would be a waste of precious time to wait for him to count her change.
Rose’s day kept getting grim as she met with David, her cousin’s husband at the entrance.
