Anna was shocked and immediately rushed forward to the person lying on the ground. When she got closer, she realized that the one who fell to the ground was an old man. One of his hands was over his chest while his eyes were closed tightly and his face began to turn blue.
Anna immediately ran to retrieve the first aid kit and began to provide him with CPR.
She checked his airway and then blew some air into his lungs before conducting chest compressions. She repeated these for several cycles before the old man gasped and began to breathe on his own. Just as she was assuring the old man he was alright now, she heard footsteps behind her.
“Mr. Larson!” A man in a business suit rushed forward, picked up the old man, and ran toward a separate villa. “You! Keep up!” he yelled at Anna.
Anna was startled and quickly ran after them.
Mr. Larson? Could that be Ethan’s grandfather, William Larson?
Isn’t that Ethan’s grandfather? William Larson, the head of the Larson family!
She overheard that Mr. Larson had been abroad to deal with some important matters and did not even have the time to come back when Ethan was injured.
Anna entered the villa and saw a doctor attending to Mr. Larson.
“I’m fine now, thanks to this girl. She was the one who saved my life!” The old man rubbed his chest, looked at Anna, and pointed at her.
Dr. Danzel Ratfield smiled and said with a smile, “The Larsons are full of hidden talents. One day one of these maids will be good enough to replace me!”
Mr. Larson laughed and said, “Is the chief surgeon at Hopkins Hospital worried about losing his job?”
Anna’s eyes widened in awe when she heard that Dr. Ratfield was the chief surgeon at the Hopkins Hospital! That hospital was owned by the Larsons, and she had always dreamed of working there!
She took the opportunity to showcase herself and said, “I did my residency at Hopkins Hospital for a brief period. That’s how I know CPR.”
“Residency at Hopkins? Then how come you’re wearing...” Danzel recognized Anna’s working attire.
Mr. Larson also was puzzled and his assistant immediately explained to him how Anna ended up where she was.
After listening to the explanation, Mr. Larson’s expression changed as he pondered. He then said, “Since you have medical training, you should continue to take care of Ethan.”
Anna’s heart immediately sank.
This was her opportunity to change her status and Anna was not going to give up just like that!
She had a bold idea and decided to seize the opportunity. “Mr. Larson, I know I am responsible for hurting Master Ethan and I swear that I will take good care of him as long as it takes. I just graduated from medical school this year and haven’t accumulated much practical medical experience. I hope that you can give me a chance to do my residency in the Hopkins Hospital so that I can also use the medical knowledge to take better care of Master Ethan.”
She replayed in her mind whatever she said as she was terrified that she had said something wrong. Her heart raced as she waited for Mr. Larson’s response.
After thinking about it, Mr. Larson said to Dr. Ratfield, “Danzel, her skills are indeed good. Why don’t you take her under your wing and train her at the hospital? This is also for the good of my grandson.” Anna braced up excitedly as soon as she heard what Mr. Larson said.
Danzel nodded and agreed. “As you wish, Mr. Larson.”
Before Anna could thank them, Mr. Larson continued, “Even though I allow you to work at the hospital, you still have to work overtime to take care of Ethan. Additionally, you must not identify yourself as Mrs. Larson. Do you understand?”
Anna nodded vigorously with a radiant smile.
With Mr. Larson’s permission, the entire Larson family knew that Anna was going to work at Hopkins Hospital.
Kate could not oppose Mr. Larson’s decision but demanded that Anna continued to take care of Ethan every day.
In this way, Anna spent every day caring for Ethan and working at the hospital.
In time, she went from being an intern to a surgeon and then became the new chief resident.
One day, Anna woke up earlier than usual. After taking care of Ethan, she made breakfast and brought it to the hospital to share with her colleagues.
When she arrived at the office, she was surprised that she was the only one there. She then went to the pantry to make a cup of coffee and heard some chattering.
“The head of the HR department brought Anna here personally! She landed the role without having to work for it like the rest of us! She must have some strong connections.”
“That goes without saying! I even heard that she is the wife of Ethan Larson!”
“Isn’t Ethan in a coma? So what if she’s his wife? What status does she have?”
“What status? If she isn’t Mrs. Larson, you would have been the chief resident instead of her!”
Anna’s heart sank when she heard the nasty comments. She thought that she had gotten along well with her colleagues for the past three years, but this was how they thought of her in private.
She cleared her throat before walking into the pantry and said with a smile, “Good morning, everyone.”
Despite the smile, Anna did not receive an enthusiastic response.
“Stop pretending, you must have heard everything, haven’t you?” Mandy snorted coldly. She was one of the candidates for chief resident who was defeated by Anna.
“That’s right. You only got your position because of your connections. Perhaps you even slept your way up.” Someone mocked. “Don’t think that just because you’re Ethan’s wife, we have to suck up to you.”
Anna’s face turned cold and she was about to retort when she heard a familiarly mean female voice who said, “Exactly! You don’t need to kiss this s**t’s a*s at all!”
It was Kate, her mother-in-law. Anna said respectfully, “Mom, what brings you here?”
“This is our family’s hospital, why can’t I come?”
Anna replied frantically, “That’s not what I meant, Mom.”
Kate snorted coldly and said to her colleagues, “What this lady said was right. All of you are here due to your abilities. Unlike some people who only depend on connections to get things done and to be promoted. Don’t be disheartened. Your abilities are far better than this kind of people.”
Since her mother-in-law was equally critical of her, the others continued to voice their unhappiness. “Anna was the last among us to start her residency but she was promoted the fastest, all thanks to Dr. Danzel’s support. He lets her participate in all kinds of surgeries!”
“A strong backer compensates for incompetence!” They all laughed jovially.
Anna felt as if a dagger had been plunged into her heart. Each time they were busy, she would cover their duty. What a fool she was to take them as friends but all alone they had been gossiping behind her back!
Dr. Ratfield assessed her to be talented enough to become a surgeon, so he allowed her to participate in his surgeries. However, those who were jealous of her accuse her of being favored by Dr. Ratfield.
“Come on people, Anna’s surgery skills are top-notch! We’ve all participated in Dr. Ratfield’s surgeries as well!” Betty spoke up for Anna.
Anna’s heart warmed up when she heard the softspoken Betty speaking up for her.
Kate scoffed in disgust and turned to leave. The rest of them ignored what Betty said and also left to do their rounds.
Anna shook her head in disappointment and looked at Betty who shrugged, patted Anna on the shoulder, and also left to do her rounds. Anna took a deep breath and composed herself before she also left the office.
Anna attended to her first patient for the day and was surprised to see Ethan’s Aunt Wendy and her son, Danny.
“Why am I so unlucky to get you?” Wendy’s expression darkened as soon as she saw Anna and then said, “Just in time, you can correct my medical records.”
Wendy had been an alcoholic. She had been admitted numerous times due to her alcoholism. Her husband hated her drinking issues and it would be a problem for her if he found out about it.
Anna refused and said frostily, “I’m sorry, Wendy. As a doctor, I can only write down your medical condition truthfully, I can’t make a false prognosis.”
“All you need to do is to change the findings here!” Wendy said angrily.
This was not the first time she had to deal with Wendy. Anna refused her demands and turned to leave.
Danny grabbed Anna’s arm and said, “Anna, don’t go.”
“This is a hospital, please behave yourself.” Anna shook off Danny’s hand.
“Oh, come on! Don’t get angry so easily, babe. Are you so cranky because you’re lonely?” Danny’s flirtatious comments made her very uncomfortable and the way he caressed her arm was totally unacceptable.
Slap!
Anna slapped Danny and said, “You should know that I’m your cousin’s wife. You’d better behave yourself!”
Before drawing more attention to herself, Anna quickly left the examination room.
What Anna did not expect was that she would run into Danny again in Ethan’s room after a long and tiring day at the hospital!
As soon as she stepped into Ethan’s room, her wrist was yanked by a large, cold hand, and her mouth was covered by another hand.
Danny pressed his head firmly against Anna’s and said, “Anna, I suggest you behave yourself. You’re lucky I find you attractive. I can pleasure you on my cousin’s behalf!”
After saying that, Danny reached out and squeezed Anna’s breasts.
Anna struggled in a desperate attempt to break free. Danny pulled Anna to Ethan’s bedside and said, “Anna, how can my cousin satisfy you? Be my b***h and I will satisfy all your desires!”
As soon as said those, Danny immediately pinned Anna to Ethan’s bed.
“b***h, I suggest that you don’t make any noise or I will tell the others that you’re seducing me!”
Anna’s body was pressed against Ethan’s legs and at this point, she was caught in a dilemma.
If she struggled and called for help, she would attract their attention and none of them would believe that she was innocent! She was also worried that any more force applied to her might hurt Ethan’s legs.
What should she do?
In her struggles, her blouse had already been ripped. She could hear the zipper of her skirt being undone and then Danny pressed her neck down onto the bed.
Anna was frantically twisting her body to defend herself when she suddenly felt a movement beneath her.
She looked up and was startled to see a pair of eyes looking back at her!
Ethan was awake!
“What are you doing?” Ethan’s voice was hoarse after not speaking for a long time.
Danny was shocked and immediately lifted his pants and took a few steps back. He pointed at Anna and said, “Cousin, your wife had seduced me! She said that you couldn’t satisfy her and forced me to f**k her!”
After saying that, Danny turned and ran away.
Anna could not care less about her clothes. She went into action and looked at all the readings on the machines to confirm Ethan’s vitals.
“My wife? Who are you?” Ethan asked curiously.
Anna answered, “I am your wife, Anna.”
