" I will say this just once , I am here for
Sophia, I am not interested in Amelia" said the Duke
" Duke Theodore it's rude of you to keep on
asking og Sophia when we have clearly told you that's she's not a good choice
for you, I'm sure you must have heard the rumors " Clare said in a calm tone but
she was so angry on the inside, she didn't understand how the Duke would have
fallen in love with Sophia so Quickly when they only just met at the party.
" I came
here for Sophia and is there a reason why she hasn't come out to see me?" The
Duke asked
" I'll need her to come out here so she can
accept the proposal or is something wrong with her?" The Duke added
The Baron and Baroness looked at each other in
shock , " the thing is Sophia is been sheltered from the outside world, the
people who she had ran into in the past are not kind that's why she stays here
with me, she's very much comfortable here hidden with her mask but Amelia on
the other hand" the Baron explained
" take me to Sophia now, if there's a single
strand of hair out of place on her head I'll see to it that you're punished "
the Duke interrupted as he commands the Baron
" this way " said the Baron ad he was certain
the Duke would change his mind on getting married to Sophia once he saw her
" Henry please stay here" the Duke told his
butler as he needed him to keep watch on the other two women , to know what
they'll do or say in his absence
Theodore quietly followed the Baron as he led
the way, he kept thinking if she would be happy to see him this early or if she
would have wanted him to come later.
" this is it" said the Baron as he knocked on
Sophia's door hoping she'd be fast asleep so the Duke could leave his home but
to his surprise she opened the door .
The moment Sophia opened the door, Theodore
noticed her swollen red eyes from the mask and ask
" what happened Sophia" Theodore asked as he
reach and cupped her chin
" my kitten was hurt yesterday and didn't
survive " said Sophia
" why are you here this early Duke Theodore "
Sophia asked pretending to be ignorant
" I have come to ask for your hand in marriage
but your family seems to think that it is a bad decision… what do you think
Sophia, would you marry me?" Asked the Duke
" accept your proposal Duke Theodore " said Sophia and then she turned to her father
" father I'd like to marry the Duke "
The Baron was surprised as Sophia accepted the
proposal
" Sophia the Duke is not an ordinary man ,
you'll be in so much spotlight if you marry him… why don't you take some time
to think about this " the Baron said as he tried to usher her back into not her
room but the Duke placed his foot to stop the Baron from taking her away.
" I would be honored to be your wife Duke
Theodore " Sophia said as she smiled sweetly at the Duke , ignoring her
father's glare
" I have prepared a small gift for you, I hope
you'll like it " Theodore said
" I'll like to have a word with your daughter
alone" said Theodore as he signal the Baron to leave them alone
" well I am honored that you have taken a
liking to my daughter but as her father, I know what's best for her and I shall
decline your proposal on her behalf I
suggest you consider her sister Amelia " said the Baron
" Sophia dear would be kind enough to step
inside your room for a moment?" Asked the Duke with a smile
She nodded and entered her room then she shut
the door She jumped when there was a
loud bang on her door like someone had crashed into it but she didn't flinch
when it heard it again she assumed it was the Duke's way of convincing her
father
Few minutes later
" Sophia" her father called out to her
" that was fast " she thought
" after a moment to think , I would be better
if you get married to the Duke and he wishes to speak with alone" said the
Baron
" I'll be on my way" the Baron said as he ran
out.... His back was aching terribly thank to Theodore who threw him against
Sophia's door
" how did you convince my father that
easily " Sophia asked
" I am a man with means to lots of information
and your father is man with a lot of crime and secrets in his pocket " said the Duke
"Wow " was the only thing she could say as he was amazed by how much the Duke knew and what ever the Duke knew was something
her father was willing to hide
" do you even worry that you'll get killed by
people for knowing their business? " Sophia asked
" not if I'm 2 steps ahead of them and not to
worry your husband isn't dying soon " said the Duke.
" please can come into your room to talk, any one could be evasdroping on us" he added
as he looked down the hallway but still wasn't convinced that one was there because he believed the walls have ears, thanks to the secret compartments they added when building their homes.
Sophia invited him into her room, she didn't care if any gossip would be formed by him entering her room alone because they're going to get married regardless
" my room isn't as grand as the one in your home but this is my comfort zone, where I find peace " Sophia stated.
"Theodore is it still an option for me to come and and live with you till we get married " Sophia asked after thinking about what her family would do to her once the Duke leaves their home
"no" the Duke replied, leaving Sophia completely stunned
