"Run!"
Gabriel Thorne's command echoed through the mountain clearing as the surveillance drone hovered overhead, its crimson light pulsing faster with each passing second.
The Sentinels scattered into the trees.
Ethan grabbed Aria's hand, pulling her down a narrow mountain trail while Maya and Noah covered the rear.
The drone didn't fire.
It simply followed.
"It's tracking us," Aria said, looking over her shoulder.
Gabriel's face darkened.
"No..."
"It's guiding someone."
Moments later, the distant growl of engines echoed through the valley.
Black armored vehicles emerged from different directions, climbing the mountain roads.
"They've surrounded the entire ridge," Maya said.
"There has to be another way out."
"There is," Gabriel replied. "But we'll never reach it together."
He pointed toward a narrow c***k in the mountainside.
"A tunnel. It leads to the eastern cliffs."
Ethan nodded.
"Move!"
---
The group entered the ancient passage just as explosions rocked the mountains behind them.
The tunnel was unlike anything they expected.
Its walls were carved with strange symbols and faded military markings dating back decades.
Professor Wolfe stopped abruptly.
"I've seen these before."
"Where?" Aria asked.
"Inside the original Genesis laboratory."
Noah shone his flashlight farther ahead.
"This tunnel wasn't built for mining."
"It was built to hide something."
As they ventured deeper, the air grew colder.
Finally, they reached a massive steel door concealed behind layers of rock.
Dust covered its surface.
At its center was a weathered insignia.
A phoenix rising through a circle.
Professor Wolfe's expression turned pale.
"No..."
"It still exists."
"What is it?" Ethan asked.
Wolfe whispered only two words.
"Eclipse Facility."
Before anyone could ask more, the metal case in Maya's hands began emitting a faint electronic tone.
Beep...
Beep...
Aria frowned.
"It's coming from the Genesis Archive."
She carefully opened the case.
Inside, beneath stacks of classified files, was a tiny tracking device.
No one spoke.
The realization hit them all at once.
Shadow Protocol had never needed to find them.
They had been carrying the beacon themselves.
Gabriel cursed under his breath.
"We've led them straight here."
Suddenly...
The enormous steel door slowly unlocked by itself.
Hydraulic mechanisms groaned after decades of silence.
A narrow opening appeared.
Cold air rushed out from the darkness beyond.
Lights flickered to life inside the hidden facility.
One by one.
As if someone had been waiting.
Then a calm electronic voice echoed through the chamber.
"Welcome home... Subject A.B."
Aria froze.
"I didn't do anything."
"You didn't have to," Wolfe whispered.
"The system recognized you."
Before anyone could react, heavy blast doors slammed shut behind them.
The tunnel entrance sealed completely.
They were trapped.
Emergency lights bathed the corridor in deep crimson.
Rows of dormant computer terminals powered on automatically.
Across every monitor appeared the same image.
A young girl.
Around seven years old.
Playing with building blocks.
Aria stared in disbelief.
"That's me..."
The recording continued.
A man walked into view.
Not Damien Voss.
Not Daniel Bennett.
Someone else.
His face was perfectly clear.
He knelt beside the child and smiled warmly.
"One day," he told her, "you'll open the final door."
The video ended.
Silence filled the facility.
Noah slowly stepped backward.
"I know him."
Everyone turned.
"You do?" Ethan asked.
Noah nodded, unable to hide his shock.
"I trained under him."
"Who is he?"
Noah swallowed hard.
"His name is General Marcus Hale."
Professor Wolfe closed his eyes.
"Impossible."
"He died twenty-five years ago."
A low chuckle echoed through the enormous chamber.
Not from the speakers.
From somewhere inside the facility.
The sound was calm...
Patient...
Very much alive.
A voice followed.
"No, Adrian..."
"I didn't."
The lights suddenly went out.
Complete darkness swallowed the room.
Only one screen remained illuminated.
A live camera feed appeared.
It showed the sealed entrance they had just passed through.
Standing outside it...
Was Damien Voss.
He wasn't trying to get in.
He simply stood there... smiling.
As though he had never intended to enter the facility at all.
Ethan's heartbeat slowed.
For the first time, he understood.
The mountain chase...
The drone...
The tracker...
Every step had been orchestrated.
They hadn't escaped Shadow Protocol.
They had been guided exactly where someone wanted them to go.
And whoever was waiting inside Eclipse Facility...
Was far more dangerous than Damien Voss.
