Chapter Twenty-Five ‘Are you hurt?’ the woman behind the counter at the bookstore said in Italian. Sophia winced. She smiled and shook her head. ‘No, I was just running.’ She placed her purchases on the counter: a blank notepad, two pens, a pocket-sized German–English dictionary and an English Lonely Planet guide to Belize. She paid in exact cash and headed for the exit, focused on walking as naturally as possible despite the incredible bruise that tarnished her shoulder blades.
