Chapter 4. True and false
School was unusually quiet today. The students wouldn't get noisy, the professors wouldn't raise their voice, even the birds that made their nests on the tree that grew very close to my lecture hall were rather silent.
This must be a bad omen, I thought. What strikes me most is the fact that nobody seem to notice or care about this unusual silence. Or was I the only one who noticed what was happening?
"Hey," the guy in back seat tapped me. I wasn't fully conscious when he did, my mind had wandered far away.
"Hello," I turned and looked above my shoulders. It was Jack.
"Do you mind helping me through some of these 'stress and monotones' after classes, probably by noon?"
"Eh… I would have really loved to, but I have a date then." I lied.
"How about I come to your dorm room by dusk?" he raised his brow.
"My date is staying over this week, he is on holiday already." I lied again.
The only problem with lying, is that you don't fully escape the ordeal you are lying about, with out lying again.
"Ohh, too bad," he said looking pale .
"I'd let you know the money am free. It shouldn't be more than a week from now." I explained.
The girl besides him stared at me.
I gave her a scowl, she sigh and look away.
"What was that?" Our professor turns his back at Olivia. "Why did you hiss?" he snapped.
"Am sorry I was a bit sleepy when I did." She explained.
"Please use the door." The professors demanded.
"Serves you right." I whispered harshly to her.
Olivia murmured something, I didn't hear her but I was sure it was a swear word. I gave her two middle fingers. "F*ck off b***h" I mumbled in a very low tone.
I wasn't troublesome, but I had to make sure Olivia new her place in class. Olivia was young and pretty as well, she had a red hair and smooth skin. Her eyes were dark brown and her hips were very pronounced.
Most beauty pageantry in my faculty, saw me and her to the finals often. Although I had won slightly more awards than Olivia. I used to think that the root of my victory could be traced down to my glowing blue eyes.
When lectures was over, my lecturer gestured for me to sit, while others. My heart raced a bit, the fear that gripped my heart, reminded me I was only nineteen _ it wasn't so bad to be scared at nineteen.
"Is something wrong Delaney?" My lecturer enquired.
"Nothing to worry about" I chuckled.
"Fine. I'd like you to get me the attendance for the rest of this week, I may not be on seat_and please be discreet about it." She implored.
"Not a problem ma'am" I promised.
I took a long walk around school, trying to clear my head on the incident lately, when I met 'Damion' the strange boy.
It was difficult to explain how I felt that day. .
As I walked pass the football pitch and the basket ball courts, situated very close to each other _I decide to walk to the basket ball bleachers, where fans sat.
Getting to the basketball court bleacher, I walk pass several rows of piled benches, until the flight of stairs came to a dead end at the top of the bleacher. I walked to my wooden seat and wiped it with my bare hands to rid off dirt. I sat down and marvelled at the magnificent view I got from my seat.
"God, I've missed out on everything! in pursuit of grades and still am not impressed with my CGPA.
Although I was the course rep.
From my seat, I gazed at the beautiful scenery and the garden that coloured Oxford_ "Where are they all going," I sneered.
Oxford was beautiful, and eco_friendly. Big Oaks, Almond trees and Dawn Redwood trees grew around the school. Making it very enabling and eco_friendly.
After feeding my eyes for several minutes in the field, I looked beneath the bleacher, suddenly, I was alarmed by the footstep from an unexpected intruder trying to invade my privacy and peace of mind.
"Damn, such a brilliant choice!" He exclaimed.
"Is this where the magic happens?" He raised his brow.
"What are you talking about? Magic what?" I fumed.
"It's fine if your gonna keep it to yourself and all, but I saw what happened yesterday_I beheld it with my two n***d eyes."
I spat and frowned at him.
"So if yoir going to talk, you had better get talking." He demanded.
"Who or what do you think you are? can't you see am trying to get some fresh air and serenity here!" I roared.
"If you aren't going to seat and watch the green fields, then I'm guessing your in the wrong place." I spat again and raised my brow.
Damion allows the tension in my voice to die off and the heavy air between us to sweep away. He considered the field and the fine grass and the people that walked to and fro in the main road and pathway, then stares deep into my eyes.
"Can I seat with you Del?" He asked lightly, gesturing to the vacant seat next to me.
"No, it's taking." I huffed.
"Taken?"
"Yes taken"
"I won't take long" he insisted.
"Hmm" I sighed.
"Fine, just do whatever you want, but don't get me pissed." I snapped.
He helps himself to the bench next to me and chuckles a little.
"Why on Earth are you chuckling?" I frowned.
He smiled politely then continued to chuckle. I pushed him away with my left arm and we both began to laugh.
'That's stupid,' I thought.
How could I seat here and laugh my a*s out with a complete stranger whose presence altered my physical appearance last time I met him at the garden.
"You really should stop over thinking and start living." He advised.
"First you invade my privacy and disrupt my peace of mind, now you want to censure my thoughts?" I blurted and scowled at him.
"Just who are you to walk into my life and tell me what not to do and what to do?" I fumed.
Damion says nothing, instead he stood up, smirked and walked to the stairs that led to where I sat.
Actually I was enjoying his company, at least it was better than loneliness and I don't need a lecture on the difference between being alone and loneliness.
Truth is, I came here in with two agendas. First to clear my head, and secondly to attract someone, anyone who boldly walked up to me. What's worst is I actually had Damion in mind to be that person.
You might think am crazy, but at least I haven't mentioned anything about love yet. But he was attractive, and come on, who doesn't go after attractive things?
"Damion!" I yelled. "Would you please comeback here and tell me about the other day?"
What a bossy teenager, Damion thought.
He turns back and stares at me, with the same smirk he wore when he was leaving.
Gently, quietly he climbed back to where I sat.
"I think I find you interesting," he remarked.
"Oh, you meant charming" I chuckled.
"The day we met," he began.
"I noticed something quite unusual when we shopped hands. I'm pretty sure you took notice as well." He paused, staring deep into my blue eyes.
That stare probably meant, its okay, you can trust me, am not a total stranger, I might feel the same.
Millions of thoughts ran through my mind, my head was starting to become heavy for my neck. Closed my eyes tight and I began to shake.
"What's happening!" I stuttered.
"Stop thinking Melanie. Just stop thinking I promise it's going to stop." He reassured me.
Indeed, the throb of pain and heaviness in my head was beginning to die down gradually. Few minutes after, the pain dies completely and the heaviness disappeared.
"Thank you," I stammered, trying not to appear weak and vulnerable.
"I did nothing," Damion smiled.
"Mind going for a walk?" Damion asked politely.
"You haven't told me why I feel this way yet." I protested.
"I would but this place isn't a convenient location for that." He smirked at a third-year student that waved at our direction as she passed.
"See, I told you, everyone could see the both of us and what am about to tell you, demands privacy and discretion." He insisted.
"Fine, but promise me your genuine and you mean well" I stared into his dark chocolate eye balls.
"He stares at me, with an emotionless face, your heart wouldn't let me seat this long, if I didn't mean well." He reassure me.
