The bullies

386 Words
The school hallway was unusually crowded during lunch break. Students moved between classrooms in noisy groups, their voices blending with the sound of lockers opening and closing. Somewhere down the corridor, someone laughed loudly while a teacher called after a group of students to slow down. Henry stood beside his locker, leaning casually against the metal door as he spoke to a girl standing opposite him. “So you’re telling me you actually like that song?” The girl laughed. “What’s wrong with it?” “Everything.” She rolled her eyes. “You’re just jealous because you can’t sing.” “I can sing.” “You absolutely cannot.” Henry placed a hand over his chest, pretending to be offended. “That was cruel.” She laughed again. For a few seconds, everything felt normal. Then a voice came from behind him. “Well, look who finally decided to show his face.” Henry’s smile disappeared. He slowly turned. Three boys stood a few feet away, their expressions already carrying the familiar amusement he had learned to recognize. The girl beside him glanced between them. “Henry…” “It’s fine,” he muttered. One of the boys stepped closer. “What happened to all that confidence from yesterday?” Henry shut his locker. “I’m not doing this today.” The boy laughed. “That’s the problem with you. You’re never doing anything.” Another boy snorted. “Leave him. You know he doesn’t have any power.” Henry’s jaw tightened. The first boy tilted his head. “What’s the family name again? Melissa?” Henry said nothing. “Funny. All those witches in your family, and you’re the weak vessel.” The words hit harder than Henry wanted to admit. The girl beside him looked uncomfortable. “Can you guys just leave him alone?” The boys laughed. “Aww. He needs his girlfriend to defend him now.” “She isn’t my girlfriend,” Henry snapped. “Whatever helps you sleep at night.” They walked away laughing, their voices fading into the crowd. Henry stood still for a moment. Then he forced a smile. “See? Nothing.” The girl frowned. “Are you sure?” “Yeah.” He opened his locker again, pretending to search for something.
