"What do you mean you will keep Alia away from Logan?" There was a hint of shock from Lia's eyes, but it didn't last for long. The surprised expression got replaced with curiosity instantly. And when she repeated those lines of my sentence, that's the only time I realized I screwed up! How could I say such a thing?!
I respect the mate bond, and I wouldn't dare interfere with the moon goddess's will. However, seeing Lia like this, miserable, plus the bitterness of the ugly scene imposed on my heart, made me say things that will comfort Lia without thinking.
Keeping them from each other was the first thing that came into my mind when I considered ways to protect Lia from falling apart. Because I could see in her eyes, it was the answer she wanted to hear.
