CHAPTER 8: Shadows of the Unknown. part 2

544 Words
The morning light filtered through the crystalline windows of the Realm King’s hall, catching on the polished floors and the high, arched ceilings. May, Zayn, Xander, K, and Ze stood before the throne, shadows and energy crackling faintly around them — each aware of the tension in the air. The Realm King’s gaze swept over them, sharp and commanding. His presence alone seemed to stabilize the room, even though he looked uneasy. “I have felt it,” he said, his voice deep and calm, but with a subtle edge. “The seal… it weakens. Its power falters, and the darkness we imprisoned long ago stirs once more.” May’s stomach tightened. She could feel it too — a subtle pulse in the air, like a shadow breathing just beyond the edges of her perception. Zayn’s hands clenched at his sides. “I felt it last night,” he said, his voice low. “In the far reaches of the Realm. Something… it’s stronger than before.” Xander stepped forward, a frown tugging at his smirk. “I felt it too. The energy… it’s alive, almost aware. Something is coming, and it’s not waiting.” K’s expression remained stoic, but his voice was calm, measured. “The seal was never meant to hold forever. This… we have been warned. The darkness will not stay buried if the blood of the Anchors is threatened.” Ze’s eyes, calm as ever, met May’s. “You, the Third Anchor, are part of this. The seal’s strength is tied to your presence, your power. That is why it stirs now. That is why you feel it.” May swallowed hard. “So… the monsters that attacked us… they’re testing us? Or… preparing for something bigger?” The Realm King’s gaze softened slightly, but his voice remained firm. “Both. The seal weakens because the balance of the Realm falters. There are those who would see it undone. You five — your unity, your vigilance — is the only thing keeping the darkness at bay.” Zayn’s shadow flickered around May, protective and tense. “Then we need to act,” he said quietly. “We can’t wait until it’s too late.” The King nodded, his eyes distant for a moment. “You will train, you will prepare. But understand this — the darkness is patient. It watches. It waits for the right moment. And when it strikes, it will not show mercy.” May clenched her fists, determination burning. “Then we’ll be ready. We have to be.” The Realm King’s gaze lingered on her for a heartbeat longer. “You carry the strength of your mother… and the courage of your own. Remember that. The darkness will test all of you, but you must not falter.” The five of them left the throne room, the weight of the King’s words heavy in their minds. Outside, the Realm felt different — charged, alert. Shadows flickered unnaturally, and the distant pulse of power vibrated beneath their feet. May glanced at Zayn, who gave her a brief, protective nod. They both felt it — the seal weakening, the darkness awakening, and the truth that the battles to come would test them in ways they had never imagined.
