Chapter 2: Night of Death

1040 Words
Chapter 2: Heaven’s Cry   Tik! Tik! The sound of the pouring rain Oh! The groans of someone in pain The curse was now unleashed The darkness was once released.   November 14.   This is same day when she died. Today is the same date when she left me without any warning. Even though four years had passed, the feeling of guilt and pain still remains.   Nothing changed. Yeah. Nothing changed.   Even my love for you, Aria.   With a clenched fists and broken heart, I stared at her name written on the stone grave. Buried a certain feet under the ground with the darkness as her companion, I still can’t believe that the cold coffin was now become her home.   The breeze of the wind was cold and the air was moist. I looked up to the sky but the moon was hiding behind the thick mass of clouds.   It will rain.     The sounds of swaying leaves from the nearby trees were loud but at the same time silent. I can hear it but not at the same time.   Today is November 14. The same day she died.   The same day my heart died.   I can still remember her smile. I can still recall how her laughter sounds like to my ears. I can still feel the warmth in my heart whenever she said she loves me.   We were happy… very happy. Then she died.   In the blink of an eye, she disappeared in my life. She left without any warning. She departed without any goodbye.   Today is November 14, at exactly 9:50 in the evening. The wind breeze was cold and the sky is cloudy like it will rain anytime. The moon was full when it peeks between the clouds a while ago.   We just finished planning for our school festival almost 10 minutes ago and I’m currently walking my girlfriend home. Our other classmates already rented a service car while we chose to walk since our houses were near the school.   "I wonder what the teachers will say if they found out who suggested the idea.” Aria laughed remembering what happened when we were discussing about the plan.   “I’m more interested to their reactions if they found out the inspiration for the idea.” I said.   She laughed harder. We were talking about our classmate who suggested creating a read-my-confession booth for the incoming school festival.   Almost all of us were against it because it was too cliché but when he said the reason and the twist for the booth, we all agreed. When we asked why he suggested that, he said that it was because the love letter he sent for her crush was placed in the wrong bag. Worst of all, the owner of the bag was also a boy. He was so embarrassed. All of us thought that was hilarious but in the end decided to do the booth. We talked more about the plan for the school fest and many more stuffs.   When we reached the park near her house, she said that I should go my own way home since her house is just few more blocks from there. I said it was fine but she got mad at me claiming that it will rain any time soon and I didn’t bring my umbrella.             “You can just lend me one from your house if that happened.” I argued back.   “No! Your way home is on that corner while mine is here.. If you walked me to our house you’ll need to return here. Too much time will be wasted you know.” She face me   “It’s fine. I’ll walk you home. It doesn’t matter to me if I need to turn back after.”     “No need to worry, okay? I’m fine here. I just need to turn on that corner and the next one. Nothing bad will happen. Also, I bet I’ll arrive home before you.”   “What’s the matter now? I always walk you home Aria. This isn’t the first time.” My eyes narrowed. I just don’t understand the difference.   “The difference is it will rain soon.” She sighed and holds my hand rubbing her thumb the back of my palm, trying to calm me down.   “Next time okay? But please listen to me today. The last time you walked me home while raining you caught a cold the next day.” She said. I understand her but I still feel uneasy. I’m really worried to her but there’s something more. “Fine! But message me when you got home.” I gave in.   She nodded and smiled at me. I pulled her for a hug that she returned a second after. Cheesy you may say but I feel happy feeling her warmth.   As we let go I watched her as she went her way home. I was about to turn my way when she called me while waving her hand.   “See you tomorrow Azzhel!” I smiled and waved back. She smiled back and turned to walk home. That night, no rain came.   That was the last day I saw her smiling. The next day she didn’t come to school and in the afternoon the bad news arrived.   Liar! She said she will see me but she never did. She never did… because she died.   Still with clenched fist, I bit my lower lip very hard until it bled. The regret still remains. It never left. I think it never will.     I closed my eyes, still facing the sky. The time is ten after midnight. The wind became colder as I felt a tiny drop of rain fell on my cheek.   Raindrops started to fall. It was drizzles at first then it becomes heavier. I let the rain to shower my body; wishing that it will also wash away the pain, the loneliness, the guilt.   Tonight, for the third time in four years… I cried.   I cried the same time the heaven cries.
