“I don’t understand.” I hesitated in the doorway of a vast chamber. Clothed in finest silk, the tall, blonde woman turned to greet me and the light from holes in the ceiling lit the gentle veins in the fabric. She shimmered and glistened and the words dried up in my throat. Soft bare arms and feet moved beneath the mesmerising cloth and her amber eyes held sadness.
“I’m your queen.”
“But she’s a bee and you’re not.” I swallowed and backed away from this new strangeness.
“Nor are you.” She smiled, an expression half mirth and half fear.
