CHAPTER THIRTY-SIXA Clockwork Spy “I’ve travelled in a circle!” I wailed. My fists beat the bark of the tree. “This is the mark I created.” “Hush! Hush!” Sorrel flapped his fingers in my face and dragged my arms to my sides. Terror shone in his eyes. “The scout is overhead searching, Este. It’ll draw them back.” “I don’t care!” I shouted, fury mingling with hysteria in my breast. My own stupidity sent my rage off the scale and I felt the overwhelming desire to hurt someone. “Please, Este!” Sorrel sank to the ground, his legs giving way and his ruined boots sliding in the ice. His cap tipped sideways and he made a sorry sight. He covered his head with his elbows and I swallowed in surprise.
