The Silvermoon communal laundry was usually a quiet place where you could just zone out and get work done, but today it felt like a battlefield. I kept my head down, focusing on the smell of lemon soap as I folded the linens. I just wanted to finish fast and go back to my room before the midday heat made everything worse. The pack house was never really quiet though. “Oh, Irene! I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you there.” A splash of cold, dirty water soaked into the stack of white towels I had just finished folding.
