The main conference room at Castillo Entertainment felt smaller after the lawyers left. Only Valentina Morales and Adrián Castillo remained. The air between them was tense, as if the contract they had just signed had already drawn invisible threads tight around their throats.
Val stood at the long table, the gold ring on her left ring finger feeling heavy even though she had only worn it for a few minutes. She looked at Adrián, who had already returned to lounging in his chair, his dark gray suit still perfectly crisp.
“Are you satisfied now?” Val asked, her voice flat but sharp. “The contract is official. I just sold my soul for eighteen months.”
Adrián rose slowly. He walked around the table with measured steps and stopped right in front of her. Only an arm’s length separated them.
“Satisfied?” he echoed, one brow lifting. “This is only the beginning, Valentina. You just signed an agreement with the devil. Don’t expect me to play the kind-hearted prince.”
Val let out a quiet scoff. “I don’t need a prince. I need access. Now.”
Adrián pulled a slim tablet from the desk drawer and handed it to her. “Temporary access codes are already set. All of Javier Ruiz’s files are open to you starting now. But remember the clause we agreed on. If a single document leaks, the contract is void and you take full responsibility.”
Val took the tablet, her fingers deliberately brushing the back of Adrián’s hand a second longer than necessary. The touch was warm. Too warm. She quickly pulled away, pretending to focus on opening the first folder.
“Javier Ruiz,” Val murmured as she scrolled. “New contract with a perfume brand next month. A luxury car sponsor. And this… internal emails saying he’s in talks for a major film in Barcelona.” A cynical smile curved her lips. “Good. I’ll start here.”
Adrián leaned back against the edge of the table, arms crossed over his chest. “You really intend to destroy him piece by piece.”
“Not piece by piece,” Val replied without looking up. “Precisely. I want him to feel what I felt. Lose everything in a matter of days, then watch the person he hurt rise higher beside you.”
Adrián was silent for a moment. His eyes narrowed as he studied her with intensity.
“You’re not the kind of woman who cries in a corner,” he said quietly. “You came here with a plan. That’s what makes you dangerous.”
Val finally closed the tablet and looked straight at him.
“Dangerous to you too?” she asked, her tone challenging. “Because starting now, I live in your house. I’ll see every meeting, every call, every little secret you try to hide.”
Adrián stepped closer. Now only inches separated them. Val could smell his cologne again, expensive, masculine, and faintly unsettling.
“Try it,” Adrián replied in a low voice. “But remember, cariño, I’ve been playing this game far longer than you. If you think you can use me without me noticing, you’re very mistaken.”
Val lifted her chin. “We’ll see who breaks first.”
Their hands nearly brushed again as Val set the tablet on the table. That faint spark returned, making her inhale sharply without realizing it. Adrián noticed the reaction, a subtle smile touching his lips.
Suddenly, Adrián’s phone vibrated on the table. He glanced at the screen, then picked it up with one hand. Val immediately recognized the voice on the other end.
“Adrián, bro, did you hear the latest news?” Javier Ruiz’s voice sounded cheerful and confident. “That deepfake video is still going viral. Val Morales is completely finished. I’ve got a big commercial shoot tomorrow. Can you help make sure the sponsors go smoothly? I need your support at the meeting.”
Val froze. Anger surged up her throat. She heard every word clearly because Adrián didn’t bother to move the phone away.
Adrián flicked a brief glance at her. His eyes were cold, but there was a glint of amusement there.
“Javier,” Adrián said calmly. “I’m busy. I’ll handle the meeting tomorrow myself. Just focus on your shoot.”
“But bro, you know I’m blowing up right now. If you could give me a little push…”
“That’s enough,” Adrián cut in coldly. “We’ll talk later.”
He ended the call without another word.
Val looked at Adrián, her eyes blazing.
“You talk to him like he’s your friend,” she said sharply. “When you know exactly what he did to me.”
Adrián set the phone down carefully.
“I’m not a fool, Valentina. Javier is just an asset whose value is rising. But assets can be replaced at any time.” He stepped closer again, his voice dropping lower. “And now I have a new asset that’s far more interesting, a contract wife who comes with burning vengeance.”
Val felt her breath hitch. She stepped back until the edge of the table pressed against her lower back.
“I’m not your asset,” she said firmly. “I’m your partner. And starting now, I’m going to use every bit of access you gave me to destroy him.”
Adrián lowered his head, his face only inches from hers. Their breaths mingled.
“Use it wisely,” he whispered. “Because if you get too greedy, you might burn with it.”
Val’s gaze flickered briefly to his lips, only for a second, before she looked away.
“I’m not afraid of burning,” she said. “I already burned two days ago when that video spread.”
She pushed lightly against his chest to create distance, then walked toward the door. Before stepping out, Val paused at the threshold and turned back.
“I heard your conversation,” she said quietly, her voice laced with a sweet threat. “Starting now, I’m not just your wife… I’m also the enemy inside your house.”
Adrián didn’t respond. He simply stood there, hands in his pockets, watching her with an unreadable expression, something between interest and warning.
Val walked out with steady steps. The door closed behind her with a soft click.
In the quiet corridor, she leaned briefly against the wall and drew in a deep breath. The gold ring on her finger gleamed coldly under the fluorescent lights. Her heart was still racing, not just from anger at Javier, but because the man she had just bound herself to felt far more dangerous than she had imagined. And tomorrow, she would move into Adrián Castillo’s penthouse.
One house. One room. One bed. Val clenched her fist until her knuckles turned white. The game had only just truly begun.
