Chapter 4:My Helper

CALLIANA'S POV. My father gave me the beating of my life that I never expected. The frown on his face made me unable to look at his face. “You think you can bring me disgrace in this pack? On the third great day, you decided to cause so much disgrace. You're a big disgrace and I blame the Moon Goddess for bringing you my way.” “Dad, why did I have to go through all these because my mother died the day I was born? How can a child intentionally kill her mother? I'm not the one who did it myself.” I cried out, my hands bowed. “You're evil, Calliana. You should be dead by now.” He said with so much venom in his voice. “For this your act of disobedience and stupidity, you'll have to remain in this prison till further notice. The day you learn loyalty will be the day you'll come out of the prison,” he said, slammed the door, and left. My father's hatred towards me makes me question the Moon Goddess. I've never seen a father hate her daughter with so much to the extent of wishing her dead. Two hours ago, two hefty men with pointed guns had threatened to blow my head off if I made a step. I had finished laying my hands on the animal, waiting for it to wake up from sleep, when the two men arrived. I thought I was dreaming, but when I rubbed my eyes, it dawned on me that I was not dreaming. This was what I was avoiding when I told my wolf to speed off. I knew Julian would come for me once he found out that I had escaped. “If you move I'll blow up your head.” One of the men commanded. The other brought handcuffs, he put them around my hands like a criminal, and we headed back to the Eden Pack. Their faces were so unfamiliar. I don't need to tell you that Julian was the one who sent them. One of the things that drove me mad was why I'll be handcuffed for doing what I'm of age to do. I'm 22 and can leave the pack because I was of age, but here they wanted to keep me at a place and make me totally miserable. These men brought me back to Julian. As soon as my father left my room, Julian walked into the room. “Do you think you can escape without me finding you?’ he mocked. I lifted my head up and tears were already flowing down my face as though it was pipe-borne water. I refused to be emotional this time. I refused to cry in front of Julian. I held myself but didn't say a word. “When you left this pack where do you think you were going to? You're meant to be in this pack to serve and that is what you must do. The next time you try running away from this pack, that will be the day I'll chop off your head,” he threatened and left. I felt so worthless and felt I never existed. What was the need for existing if I am being treated this way? As soon as they left, this courage came from nowhere. I felt so courageous and decided not to give up. Now that I am locked up in prison, I started racking my brain on how to escape. I was delegated to a guard who brings food to the prison once in a while. Some days he doesn't bring anything, but other times he brings small food. One day, he brought food for me. He engaged me in a conversation. “I'm sorry for the way I brought food for you here. It's not intentional. It's as instructed by Alpha Julian. Most times, I bring my own food because I feel so much compassion for you.” he explained. I looked at him and nodded slowly. “Thank you, sir, for assisting me.” He let out a smile then continued. “But can you tell me what crime you committed to be imprisoned? You're too young to be in prison.” I stared at him but didn't say a word. At one point, I started thinking if he was a spy sent by Julian, but my instinct said he wasn't, and I believed it. “Sir, it's a very long story. But the truth remained that I did not commit any crime.” Just then, we started hearing some footsteps coming towards the prison where I was staying. The guard quickly dropped my food, stood, and left immediately. I ate the food like a hungry lion because for the past four days, my stomach had not seen food. After one week, the guard came back again, he brought some food but it was so little. “Calliana, there's something I want to do for you. I've heard Alpha Julian discuss your issue among his friends and there's no plan for you to be released from here. If you continue staying here, you may end up dying here and rotting at the same time. I want to help you get out of here.” I quickly stood from the damp floor I was staying and moved closer to him. “Your mother was the one who trained my parents, who were involved in a ghastly motor accident. She was my mother's friend but never treated me that way. She treated me like her child. I got a contract job that took me out of the pack. I was there for twenty-two years and just came back a few days ago to hear the news of what has been happening in the pack while I was away. I was so pained hearing that your mother was dead. I joined the guards as soon as I came back because I wanted to help you.” I couldn't hold my tears, so I allowed them to flow freely. I've held these tears for a while. I burst out crying. The guard patiently watched me as I did that. Then at a point, he came closer and rubbed my back, wiping my tears with his handkerchief. “It's fine, Calliana. I can feel your pain. Please calm down. My major concern is how you'll leave here. Are you ready to leave now?” I nodded so fast, quickly gathered my clothes, pressed them into my bag ready to leave. “Okay, please hold on.” He stepped outside and did some research, then came back to my room. “I just went to check if you can leave now. It's past one in the afternoon and the pack is very quiet. I'll release you now, follow me quietly to the pack's gate. Ensure you shift, then take your left. Please don't take your right. Take your left and I believe that the Moon Goddess will see you through.” I didn't know how to thank the guard. I was so excited that I didn't know when I hugged him. Immediately, I carried my bag and followed him. As soon as we got to the pack's gate, there were footsteps of people coming behind us. The guard quickly hid me at the back of an oak tree. Immediately, they passed, and they exchanged pleasantries. He brought me out, and we continued. As soon as we got to the pack gate and I stepped out of the pack, I shifted and headed towards the left side of the forest as the guard instructed. My wolf ran without looking backwards. If she could fly she would have flyed. It was the little food that the guard gave me that made my wolf have the energy to run. We didn’t entertain any distractions. It was the distraction that we allowed from the animal(though we saved the animal) that took me back to the pack. I wouldn’t want to make such a mistake again. For two days we were still running into the forest became I don’t want us to be caught again. If for any reason am caught them it’s death sentence. My wolf was getting weak because for this two days we’ve not eaten anything nor drank anything. From afar, we saw a stream and my wolf stopped moving. I knew she has tried, I thought of shifting but it’s also the same thing. I managed and shifted, heading towards the stream because that was our only hope to regain strength. As soon as we g ot to the stream, I was about scooping some water when I passed out.
