Violet“What’s the itinerary again?” Nina asked. “Nina, did you look at your invitation at all?” “Yea, I glanced at it.” I chuckled and shook my head at her. “Well, you know it runs Thursday through Sunday, right?” “Mmhm,” she said, while trying on a dress. “Tomorrow night is cocktails and dinner at the school. Friday starts with a breakfast at ‘The Hungry Apple’, then there is a welcome back dinner at the ‘Dewberry Estates’, along with some awards and dancing ‘under the stars’.” “Oo la la, dancing under the stars.” She opened the curtain. “How does this look?” She asked modeling a long, slinky black dress. “The invite said, ‘evening under the stars’ but I assume that means dancing and it looks great on you, what doesn’t?” “Thanks doll! What else? How many dresses am I going to need?” She went back into the changing room to try on another dress. “Hm. Well, Saturday there’s another breakfast at ‘The Coffee House’, along with a remembrance service. Lunch is at ‘The Salty Fox’ and then the formal dinner at Cedar Vale Manor and then Sunday one last breakfast.” “Okay, so that’s cocktail hour, dinner and formal dinner, plus three breakfasts. Ugh, I’m going to go broke getting outfits for all of this.” “You don’t need to buy all new dresses for everything. Just get one for the formal dinner.” “I need one for the cocktail hour too.” “Why? Those people never see you. They don’t know what you have in your closet?” She drew open the curtain again. “How does this one look?” She modeled a long peach colored frock. “It looks gorgeous, just like the last one.” “Which one do you like better? And why aren’t you trying anything on?” “I don’t feel like being depressed right now.” “Depressed at what?” “How awful, I look.” “b***h, please!” She exclaimed loudly. The snooty looking woman helping us crinkled her nose at Nina. “Oops, sorry.” Nina was tall, slender, with a warm ivory complexion and long blonde hair, it was dyed, but it matched her skin tone and green eyes perfectly. She looked like a typical Hollywood starlet. I sometimes expected one of the “Ryans” to come in and try to sweep her off her feet. The thing about Nina, she is as unorganized and unfiltered as she is beautiful, and never on time for anything. It made her even more endearing. To top it off, she was also the best friend anyone could ask for. “b***h. Please,” she said in a lower tone. “You are stunning! Get your ass over there and pull some dresses. We need you to look fabulous, well, even more so than normal. We need to find something that’s going to make Shane say, ‘hot damn’ and anyone else that might show up.” She did a little shimmy. “Stop it! He’s not coming!” “You don’t know.” She smiled, then stepped back into her dressing room. “I do know.” “Whatever! Go find some dresses.” “Fine! Oh, Shelbi wants us to meet her at the nail salon when we finish here.” “I’m game for a mani-pedi. Plus, I think I might get a wax. You know, just to be on the safe side.” “Planning on hooking up with an old classmate?” “Never know, who I may run into.” “Oh hell. Who have you been secretly stalking on social media?” She pulled the curtain back just enough to peek her head out and stuck her tongue out at me. “Oh, it’s like that? I will find out. Jerk.” “Yea, but you love me.” “I can’t stand you right now. Come out and let me see the next dress.” “Okay, but then your ass if going to find something for yourself.” I looked over and the snooty older lady was just shaking her head. “Gianina Zahedi, keep your voice down before we get kicked out of this boutique!” “Please, I’ll own this boutique!” She peeked her head out and stared down the older lady.
