Weak.
She felt so weak and lifeless. She tried to lift her arms but they were heavy, and she could feel her blood running along her body. How long has it been? Minutes? Hours? She tried to stay alive while drowning in the deep blue sea but she felt hopeless.
Somebody will find me soon, she imagined. Someone, please help me, she prayed sincerely.
Her entire body screamed for help and she tried not to fall asleep. She was scared and she needed someone to help her immediately. Blood kept dripping from her head and she was scared that some sharks would find her first.
“Goodbye Lucas, my love,” Maddison whispered into nothingness before she closed her eyes to accept her fate.
Then, a burst of light appeared in front of her, and Maddison tried her best to open her eyes. A tall and handsome man with eyes of white fire appeared in front of her, and she was terrified. His gazes touched the deepest part of her soul, and she felt naked and vulnerable around him.
For the first time, she witnessed the intense beauty of two sweeping and feathered wings of an angel. He was topless and his muscular body moved with an animalistic grace. Maddison heard a humming sound before she lost her consciousness.
Maddison heard voices around her but she was terrified to open up her eyes. She was scared to find out if she’s already dead. On second thought, maybe she could just take a peek of what’s going on. She remembered being carried by a winged being before dying. When the realization hit her that she wasn’t dreaming and saw an angel, her eyes opened in disbelief.
“Finally you are awake,” he said.
Maddison swallowed the lumps on her throat as she took in the image before her. He wore a jacket with a deep V-neck that revealed a little of the traditional shirt under it. The leather belt was a functional addition to his outfit and it was held together by a decorative pin. When her eyes traveled downward she furrowed her forehead and asked, “Who are you?”
He cleared his throat before he introduced himself. “I’m Sebastian Clarke, madam."
Maddison stared at the man with white and perfectly groomed hair in a ponytail. He has a charming face that could rival her favorite model, Mr. Gandy. His blue eyes narrowed at her as if he waited for her to speak. “Where am I?” She asked while her eyes roamed around the entire chamber she was in.
“Bexwell,” she answered briefly.
Bexwell? She never heard of it before and narrowed her eyes at Sebastian. “Am I dead?” She inquired.
“Dead? Do I look like a ghost?” He replied with a question but her sudden movement startled him. Sebastian tried to look away but her scanty clothing tempted his eyes. Although he had a fair share of women in his kingdom, no one dared to parade her body with her undergarments only! “Cover yourself!” He ordered.
Maddison blinked her eyes several times before she checked herself and her eyes became round in disbelief that she had nothing on except her two-piece swimsuit. She immediately grabbed the blanket which gathered at her waist when she sat up. She could feel the heat rushing to her cheeks and bit her bottom lip before she looked away. “Am I still alive?” She repeated.
“How many times are you going to ask me that? Just wait for the maid who will assist you with your needs,” he said before leaving.
She waited until he was gone and ran towards the door to ensure that it was locked. Then, Maddison pressed her ears on the wood panel as she tried to listen to what’s going on outside the chamber. Her heart almost skipped a beat when she heard some footsteps coming closer to the door. When the person outside the door knocked steadfastly, she concluded that it was someone else and unlocked the door.
Maddison came face to face with a redhead woman who looked younger than her or they could be at the same age. Bloodshot green eyes watched her from head to toe and then she burst into laughter. “Is there something funny?” She was offended by the way she looked down on her when she was only a maid.
“You are funny! Sebastian said that you looked ridiculous on your outfit and damn, he was right!” She replied.
Maddison arched her brow at the woman who’s being disrespectful. “Aren’t you being impertinent for a maid?” She reprimanded the woman who dared to disrespect her as a person.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized.
Maddison was horrified when the redhead immediately kneeled on the floor and begged for her forgiveness. “What are you doing?” She yelled while helping the other woman stand up. Wait, did she just yell at someone? “Did you bring something for me to wear?”
“Yes, Madam.” She replied and unboxed the clothing she mentioned.
A few moments later, she stared at the fancy dress with a keyhole neckline. The delicate buttoned-up fabric covered her stomach where the continuous flow was broken with a thick ribbon worn fairly around her waist. The front of the top dress reached the floor and she was mesmerized at its design. She looked like a princess from a medieval era and for the first time, she liked a red gown!
Maddison refused to believe that she’s still alive. “Hit me,” she ordered the maid and the clueless woman defied her order. “Hit me!” She shouted at the maid and the poor woman remained adamant to obey her command. “Should I inform Sebastian about your behavior?” Maddison threatened her and before she could utter another word, a loud thud echoed inside the chamber when her body bounced against the wall. Did she just fly?
“Devita!”
Both women were startled when Sebastian suddenly appeared inside the chamber and aimed at the maid’s throat. Maddison screamed in horror and Devita was terrified to lose her life in the hands of their young prince.
“It’s my fault!” Maddison shouted to stop him from harming Devita.
