Adam
The next several days passed by in a blur.
Jadea hadn't wasted any time. The moment she knew my decision, she'd had her pack make the arrangements. Almost from the moment we walked through the door, she'd become a hurricane. We packed what I needed and wanted with me, and grabbed a few extras for my littles. The next morning a packing crew arrived. I wasn't used to just doling out orders, and so Jadea took lead as the packers and movers brought in boxes and bags and packed my apartment.
Somewhere in the middle of the chaos of that day, Garret and Blade took me to the precinct to give my report to Sargent Moore. He had expressed how glad he'd been to see me alive. Before we had left, he quietly gave Garret a copy of everything he and his team had collected on the case.
By the time we had returned, the apartment was empty and the moving truck was gone.
I had to hand it to the group they had found and hired, they were good and they were damn quick.
Jadea went with me to talk everything over with the landlord and she paid for the penalty of breaking the lease contract.
Since everything had been moved and there was nothing left in my apartment, Briar made arrangements for all of us to stay together in a hotel suit. The first night with all of us together was entertaining and fun. I hadn't laughed so hard since the last time the band and I had been together. We ended up staying up far too late, and when the next morning came I wasn't ready to get up early to go into work.
As Jadea drove me to the studio, I became nervous.
I'd been gone for nearly a week with no calls, no explanations. And, now, I was walking in to give my notice.
Jadea reached over and took my hand comfortingly. "Just explain what happened, Adam. You have the police report if you wish to share it," she shrugged. "Besides, you're quitting. Even if they aren't happy, they can shove it where the sun don't shine."
If only I had her confidence--
"What do you mean?" she smirked. "You've got plenty of confidence with some to spare. Look at how you've stood up to me," she pointed out.
True. But, there was a difference. I knew with her, I was safe.
With her vote of confidence, I killed my exit interview and left knowing I hadn't burned any bridges. As she drove us back towards the hotel, she handed me her phone with a document pulled up on it. "Our lawyer wrote this up. Why don't you look it over and tell me what you think?"
It was a contract with Knight Necromancers and was very similar to the one I had signed last year, the only major difference being the salary. "Th-This is t-too m-much," I stuttered, shocked.
"The price is only negotiable if you want more," she clapped back. "I'm not going to give you less."
"J-Jadea--
I heard her heavy sigh. "Why don't you think you are worthy of such a salary vanilla?"
"I-I'm only going to be d-doing a very small part in the grand scheme of things." I wasn't wanting to go up on a stage and perform anymore. I was way past those days. My niche was using my tech and putting together tracks. It wasn't much. Honestly, it was something they could even do.
"A very important part," she pressed, her intense light green eyes connecting and holding mine briefly. "Have you kept track of our latest album and songs?"
"No," I shook my head. I'd heard them, but beyond that I'd kept my distance from everything involving Knight Necromancers to help ease the pain in my chest.
"Every song you helped us with became a hit, Adam. Several made it into the top 100 and two of them hit the number one and number two spots for several weeks."
My eyes got really round. I was completely clueless.
"To reiterate, what you bring to the table is enormous. The talent is phenomenal. I would pay that much and more for such talent."
I weakly nodded.
I guess I should have known their popularity because I had received my cut of the profits for the songs I'd helped make. Though, in my defense, I had opened a separate bank account for that and hadn't even looked at the amount. I guess I had been so afraid to know because I'd been afraid it would be incentive enough to go back to Jadea before I was ready.
"Oh vanilla," Jadea's voice drifted through my mind and I blushed knowing it was stupid of me to have done that. I could have used the money. But, my littles and I were living comfortably enough with what I'd made from my job. "Is there anything you would like to do before we go back to the hotel?"
I looked around at where we were and nodded. "Take the next exit. We are going to cruise the mall for a bit, if that is okay?" I just wanted some time with her all to myself. I was selfish like that.
"Of course it is," she smiled.
When we got there, she quickly grabbed a hat to help cover her face so it wasn't as easy to identify her.
For the next few hours, we leisurely browsed the rather large, two story mall. Both of us had bought some things for the littles to spoil them rotten. We'd both been silly in most of the shops we'd browsed, trying on hats, scarves, clothes just for the fun of it. We played hide and seek. Tag. We were being silly and stupid. I felt like a young man again. Full of fun, youth and mischief. All of the bad things melted away for a short time, and it was just us. When we got hungry, we got something at the food court. As we were enjoying our meal, Jadea's gaze caught mine.
"I got you something," she said suddenly, a mischievous smile playing across her lips. For one moment I was afraid she had gotten me something naughty. "I did something of that nature," she admitted. "But I'm going to keep that a secret for now. I got you something else too."
Oh dear lord! I wasn't sure if I should be afraid or not. "Okay? What did you get for me?"
She moved so quickly, I didn't have time to react or even glimpse what she pulled out of her bag. I felt something slide on my head, and then she was plopping herself back in her seat across from me, her smirk deepening those gorgeous eyes sparking. "Those actually suit you better than I thought," she smiled proudly.
Reaching up tentatively, I felt the faux fur of ears. Curiously, I opened up the camera on my phone. She'd bought me a pair of faux wolf ears. They were nearly the same color as my hair. A burst of laughter spilled from my chest. I felt ridiculous but, I did have to admit it too, they looked good on me. I never would have guessed.
I made sure she ate her entire plate before we continued on our little shopping spree. I made sure to wear the ears proudly, not caring what others thought. Some ice cream and another couple hours later, we rolled up to the hotel and banged into the room laughing and carrying on.
"Where are the others?" I asked looking around the empty space.
"They went out for a movie," she smirked, her primal gaze landing on mine.
My heart jumped and both of us at the same time dropped our loot and lunged at each other. Jadea pushed my back against the door and pressed her body fully against mine. I loved the feel of her curves pressed so enticingly against me. Lips crashed together desperately as we devoured one another. Moans clashed as our hands roamed and caressed. I wasn't gentle as I undressed her. Every cell in my body was alive and burning for her. I needed to be buried in her.
Now!
I already knew we weren't going to make it to our bedroom. As I laid her out on the table, I could only pray the others wouldn't come back anytime soon...
