Jadea
When I woke up again, the sun was lighting the room once more. From my own internal clock, I had to say it was nearing noon but I wasn’t worried so much about the time. There wasn’t anything pressing that we had to do, other than rest and recover.
It was so warm and cozy under the covers, snuggled up against Adam, it felt so heavenly and I was loath to give it up so quickly. A soft, happy sigh escaped me as I burrowed myself a little closer into him.
“Morning, baby girl,” he mumbled, sounding as if he was still half asleep, his arms in response banded more securely around me and he sought skin to skin contact by pushing the large shirt I’d borrowed up past my stomach. I didn’t have any pants on. Just a measly pair of lacy underwear.
“Morning vanilla,” I smiled, while his hands roved intoxicatingly across my hips. His hands traced patterns along my back, under my shirt and I felt my body awaken in a different way.
“I can’t believe you’re really here,” he continued against my ear on a soft moan. “There have been so many times I was dreaming and woke up to an empty bed. I can’t tell you how disappointing and lonely it was.” His lips pressed against the soft spot under my ear as his words reverberated within me. They hit home because there had been so many times when my dreams had seemed so real and I too woke up alone and heartbroken. “There were so many times I wanted to call you. To beg you to take me back. There were so many times I wanted to just go running back to you, but I knew I wasn’t ready. And I couldn’t disappoint you. I couldn’t lose you entirely because I decided to be selfish.”
I chuckled sadly. “I understand that entirely. There were days, weeks even, when all I wanted was to just hear your voice. I can’t tell you the number of times I ended up breaking my phone because it was the only way to stop myself from calling you.” It wasn’t something I liked to admit, especially in my very weak moments when I’d had his number showing on the screen. “I didn’t want to interrupt your healing process. If anyone reached out, it had to be you.”
“I know. And I understand now why you left and set the boundaries you did,” he reassured me, one hand petting my hair, fingers trailing down the back of my neck, while his other hand curled over my waist.
There were several minutes of comfortable silence where we just held on tight to each other, just enjoying one another.
“You know what just occurred to me?” His voice was thoughtful and tinged with a humorous edge.
“What?” I asked looking up into his face curiously, his gorgeous blue eyes shining brightly and filled with so much love they nearly stole my breath. His short red hair stuck out haphazardly, his dark blue eyes holding me spellbound. His was a little longer than I remembered it being and there was a few day old stubble casting a shadow on his jaw.
“I just realized I don’t have any clothes. I’m assuming what I’m in was borrowed from someone.” His lopsided grin had my heart going crazy in my chest. “I didn’t think my date night through very well…”
I laughed as I realized I only had the one short summer dress—that Briar was currently wearing. And currently, I was wearing one of Lance’s shirts. We definitely didn’t have the ideal wardrobe at the moment.
I should have thought about this but my mind had been preoccupied with worry about Adam and puzzling over why my toxic ex-family was suddenly so interested in me.
“Knock knock!” Garret’s voice rang in the room as he barged in with bags in hand. I sat up and curiously watched him as he maneuvered his way into the room. “I’ve got a special delivery!”
“Hi Garret,” Adam greeted, also sitting up.
“Adam,” Garret responded, nodding to him. “I’m glad to see you up and about.”
I recognized my luggage from the tour and I realized we had never checked out from the hotel we had been staying at. “When…? Where…?” I was trying to get the questions out but I was too baffled.
Garret’s cocky grin was my answer. Somewhere along the way he had handled all of that for me and, by the looks of it, had our luggage delivered too.
“I knew there was a reason I made you my beta,” I teased.
“Just say thank you,” he chuckled.
“I don’t know,” I continued on sassily. “What about—
“I had Briar and Derrick go into town and pick out some clothes for our dear friend,” he interrupted me, setting down a large plastic shopping bag.
“Well damn, look at you thinking about everything!” I smiled affectionately at him and then continued on in a more serious note. “Thank you, Garret. You’re the best.”
“I know I am,” he stated cockily as he sashayed out of the room, making both of us chuckle. “Now, Jadea, stop being so selfish and keeping Adam all to yourself! Don’t spend all your time in here you two lovebirds!” He scolded in jest. “If you just can’t come to terms with sharing him, we won’t be shy in barging in at the most inopportune time,” he winked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively, before closing the door behind him.
“He’s not serious, is he?” Adam asked a little worried when Garret left.
I couldn’t stop my laughter. “Unfortunately, he’s not joking.”
His face flushed red and a warring look crossed his face. I knew exactly what he wanted to do but he was now worried the rest of my pack would barge in on purpose while we had our sexy time.
“I might have a solution,” I smiled wickedly and pulled him out of bed and towards the bathroom. “We both could use a bath and I know they wouldn’t dare disrupt us there.”
“B-bath?”
“Yeah. Have you never done it in a bath?” I paused just outside of the bathroom, facing him.
He shyly shook his head and my heart melted. “Oh vanilla,” I smiled softly, knowing what had to be done.
“I’m a hopeless case, aren’t I?”
“No. Not hopeless. Just still so innocent in some respects,” I teased. “Well, I guess I’m going to have to make this an experience you won’t forget.” I stated, accepting the challenge as I dragged him into the bathroom and locked the door behind us.
