An hour later, just as I was crawling into bed, I got a text. From Don. Who doesn't text. Did I just see your car at Below the Belt? I waffled. What to say? Don and I don't lie to one another. But I wanted time to think about what I'd heard and do my own sleuthing before approaching him with it. He liked Daniel. He trusted him. And Don doesn't trust very many people. If I was going to tell him something, it would need to be evidence-based. Not on the word of a man neither of us had any use for. My only way out was to tell the truth. Sort of. Met with somebody about a story. Supposed to be a big scoop. Didn’t pan out. I didn’t feel good about typing that. I'm becoming a better liar than I want to be. He responded a minute later.
