“How’d the pulse laser work?” she asked as she entered hailing distance.
I shot her a look.
“I helped install it,” she added, slowing to a walk. “Awful hard to rig with whatever control scheme that ship is using. Took three separate compatibility layers and a bit of creative engineering. So? Did it work out?”
I shrugged. “Yeah, more or less.”
She frowned. “Does that mean the gun works more or works less? Cause it’d be hard to work less than before it was installed…”
I scoffed. “It worked,” I assured her. “There’s just a firing delay. I rigged a fix for it.”
“A firing delay? What kind? Like a five michron pause?”
“Yeah,” I said. “About that. Why?”
“Egh, I told them the third layer needed to be optimized better,” she muttered. “Is the flight data still on the ship?”
