Chapter Twenty-Four
Jason waited for Lena outside the Belmont Hotel parents room. He shifted his weight restlessly from foot to foot, craving a cigarette although he’d given up a year ago. Competing emotions made his stomach churn. First, the good news. He’d finally met the girl that he’d had a crush on for months. He’d even rescued her from a bad situation and so earned some degree of trust and gratitude.
The bad news was that she came complete with a boyfriend and baby. Not to mention the fact that he’d probably wind up on an assault charge. Would her jerk of a boyfriend come back in to file a complaint? As the minutes ticked by with no sign of him, Jason started to relax. Perhaps, against the odds, his luck would hold. There weren’t any witnesses, and no security cameras covered that
