Chapter Fourteen Ted drove past the house and through the open gate. He parked his truck beside the fallen tree and cast an experienced eye over it. He’d forgotten how big the log was. Its sheer size staggered him all over again. What a giant the tree would have been in its heyday. It was impressive even in death. Ted got to work, the roar of his chainsaw deafeningly loud. As noise tore through the silence, a flock of gang-gang cockatoos rose above the treetops, bright red crests raised in alarm as they uttered their haunting warning cries.
