Ryhan Pov: I woke up as the sun rose, peaking it's way through my window, after tossing and turning all night. I had so much to do today, we were under stress from the Genai, powerful and vicious dark fae who wish to aline with us against the Elves to take Alabaster, mainly as they were trying to take the whole forest under their control. I knew already weaker packs had already pledged their loyalty, as well as some lesser fae. I was meeting with them tonight. Before that though, I had day shift on patrol today. I was excited. with my Beta Ivan and Gamma Joshua. We grew up together as boys, though It was an Alphas job to know all his members, which wasnt hard for me with the size of my pack, at 200 hundred strong that was nothing in comparison to the other packs that reside in the forest, aside from new mates though, I practically grew up with all of them. today I will be spending the day shifted into my wolf form, patroling the outside of the hollowed out mountain, containing majority of our pack land. My wolf was itching to get out and run, I could feel him shake with anticipation inside me. He wanted to come out and play, we were both excited for the day outside the the walls of the mountain, with an open top covered in enchanted green vines, dense enough to disguise what was in side, but thin enough to let the light of day and the moon to shine through. Aside from the top entrance there was a cavern hidden, in the side of the grassed rock covered by a streaming waterfall, pack members weren't to cross through the waterfall in to the forest with out clearance. you could only gain such clearance by being either a hunter, a warrior or a scout and only an Alpha, Luna, Beta or Gamma could give such clearance. we lived in what my mother used to call a moon god given sanctuary. I went over to the bucket of water I kept by the fire in my room and scrubbed my face hard, willing the sleep fog to wash from my brain. I dressed simply and made my way down stairs to make my self breakfast, I found my father at the table, The recently retired Alpha of about 7 years, still strong and tall in stature, with graying dark brown hair and golden eyes roaming over the most recent scout reports. I made up my meal of bread, meat and cheese, sitting down beside him. he slid an open envelope in front of me, a letter from the silver moon pack. our closest Allys and the closest pack near to the mountain. Residing by the stream a 3 days walk or one days wolf run from here. Alpha Ryhan Frye, of the cresent tail wolf pack. Our scouts have recently heard word the katergels, are making ways through the forest, heading right at us, towards Alabaster. There is talk that they dare come so close due to a lack of food supply. we have reason to believe something has been wiping out a majority of the forests herbervoris population, leaving the carniviours hungry. take heed brother. we will be in touch. Alpha Scott Aston, of the silver moon wolf pack. it was signed with his pack sigil, a silver wolf howling at the Moon Gods. Taking a bite of my breakfast i asked my father If he had read the letter, already knowing the answer. "Yes" he grumbled still scanning over the reports. "Have our scouts confirmed such action?" I inquired. "Yes" he responded again gruffly, taking a sip of his tea. I nodded. "We'll have a pack meeting tomorrow night, make a decision on how we can fortify the Mountain for if they decide they get hungry enough to attack at the very least our live stock, let alone our people." I stated, Father nodded his agreeance. placing down the reports for me to look over at some point. "I am going to the market to pick up some more flour," he told me as he was putting on his jacket and promptly left. I nodded again, mainly to myself, used to his offish, rough nature. After i finished scarfing down my breakfast, i also left the house heading towards the north, east scout tower built into the large dark oak tree, that stood just outside the waterfall. there was four scout towers, positioned around the mountain, each with a scout member rostered on to observe and document, then report back to me. it also served as an effective warning and security system. as I walked through the village, I nodded at the pack members who were up early doing their daily dutys, harvesting the crops, shearing the gartorras and milking the toepares. Once i arrived at the bottom of the tree, I whistled up for who ever was on duty to throw down the twine rope we used to climb to the top, it came down seconds later and I climbed up quickly, as I reached the top I pulled the rope back up, nodding at Jack in greeting, He nodded in response and resumed gazing out at the horizon of trees, in the direction of Alabaster, the great Elven woods. They mainly kept to them selves, thinking themselves better then us who dwell amongst the green, very few socialized, but, their scouts left ours alone and we extended the same courtesy. father had friends within their walls though, a few Scouts and one of their lords, from when his father, my grandfather, and then my father was previously Alpha before me. Personally, I had no time for such things. they were pretentious creatures, who although immortal with power, forget they are also, but mere flesh and blood. why else would they hide away in their sacred trees. I undressed and folded my clothes neatly placing them in the wooden cubby to the side, "Anything to report Jack?" I asked with an underlying tone of authority. "No, Alpha" he responded. "Nothing unusual." I nodded and shifted quickly, I then turned and jumped from the landing in the scout tower, on to the side of the mountain to begin my patrol. Patroling the border was liberating to say the least. Only really being able to get out these days while on duty. Between comunications with other packs, the ever present threat of the carnivorous animals that live among us, the rise to power the Genai feel they have a right too, not to mention the general responsibility of an Alpha. The amount of hours I've spent hunched over my desk dealing with nothing but paper work, fielding questions till my back and shoulders ached. it's either that or these curseded meetings, like the one tonight. I shivered at the thought of the Genai, pushing it to the back of my mind. It was all a far cry from my youth as a warrior, I miss those days, the wind whipping through my fur made me feel free for the first time in months. for the hundred, thousandth time, I cant help but think this would all be easier if I could just find my Luna. Bounding along the side of the grass covered mountain, I padded along. patroling and observing around until I hit the edge of the top, making my way around the vines careful not to put any weight as though not to fall in to any of the vines traps, before coming to the other side looking down. I saw a large black wolf with a gray snout, Ivan padding along the side of the lower side of the mountain and another large dark gray wolf, Joshua hearding a stray Bendingo back to his pack and away from our border further along the tree line. I quickly surveyed the rest of the border I could see, before howling and bounding with super speed down towards them, tackling Ivan as I got close. Joshua pounced around trying to be apart of the fun, after we calmed down and mind linked coordinating our patrol, I took the north quarter. Aside from us three I knew there were two other pack warriors patroling today, Warrior Grace, mate to my cousin Ezra, a recent but well received addition to the pack from the silver moon wolf pack, and Warrior Sky, a lower pack member I grew up with as a boy. Grace took the south of the mountain and Sky was guarding the entrance to the mountain by the waterfall. the rest of the day proved uneventful, for which I was grateful, considering the stress I would surely feel tonight. nothing more to ward off then another stray Bendingo and a couple of Toepares, a herbovoris mammal that we wolves farmed ourselves, for their milk and hides. peaceful creatures who only required a little nip on the behind to turn them in the right direction. it was now slowly becoming nightfall and I knew more warrior wolves would soon be coming out to take our place on patrol, relieving us for the night. I made my way to the north east scout tower were I left my clothes, when I heard a district howl, a call to arms! from the west side of the mountain. Ivan! I tried mind linking with him, nothing. before I knew it I had ran over the top of the mountain avoiding the vines, coming down the west side a smaller dark gray wolf with white socks and snout, Grace and a larger dark gray wolf, Joshua hot on my tail as we got closer, Joshua mindlinked with me "Alpha, what's happening?" he asked. "I dont know" I replied. Grace joined in, "I can smell another wolf," Grace was known for her incredible sense of smell, that was admittedly even better then mine, I trusted her word but why would another wolf be here? I was sure she could sense my confusion. But before I could comment we were coming up on the scene, all I could see was a gnashing of teeth, black fur on top of russet red, a Yelp, a bite and then the russet wolf was on top, Another wolf?! really?! I skidded to a stop beside them grabbing the russet wolf with my teeth throwing them off of Ivan, they were alot smaller then me and Ivan, but bigger then Joshua. Scrappy too. I turned to them snarling, they snarled back as we started to circle around each other. I could hear Grace Growl menacingly behind me over the pounding of my heart in my ears, I gashed my teeth in warning but the wolf didnt back down, I would have to attack. frustration and anger took over and I finally lunged at them, biting them clean in the shoulder, Ivan being powerful himself as a Beta, the other wolf was already wounded immensely before I had arrived. All it took was one blow from my powerful jaws for them to collapse on the ground in front of me, glaring up at me growling quietly, their black eyes full of hatred, mere minutes passed and their eyes started closing and they began shifting in to a tall, muscular man with pale skin and russet brown hair, he was badly wounded but alive. I could hear his heart beat thudding lowly in his chest. but his werewolf blood was still working hard to heal him. I knew he would still need assistance though, I turned to check on Ivan, panting and leaning against Joshua but still standing, Gashes in his side, his dark fur matted with blood. "The two of you, Get back inside the mountain, dont bother stopping to shift until you are inside, go straight to the infirmary." I ordered them, I then turned to Grace, and shifted. "I am going to put him on your back" I told her, talking aloud. I was expecting some resistance from our newest warrior, but she merely nodded and crouched down so I could pick up the strange man and secure him on her back, "Take him straight to the pack house, dont stop until you get there. when you get there you will find clothes in the bottom left bedroom, dress quickly and find my father. tell him what happend, he'll know what to do." she nodded and took off after the others. I took a deep breath, surveying the surrounding trees. the sun was now setting deep in the tree's and I should be on my to the waterhole to meet with the Genai about now, but was apprehensive. i had planned on asking a pack member who was off duty to accompany me, when I got back to the mountain. but there was no time for that now. I looked up towards the mountain and saw Warrior Gavin and Warrior Ezra meeting at the topside of the mountain on this side, I was curious to know if they had seen what happend, I hoped they would be helpful in the retelling to the other pack members, perhaps they had seen more then we had from their advantage point. Turning back to the forest my stomach turned with unease about facing the Genai alone. What if they were the ones who sent the wolf? I knew some packs of the forest were now loyal to them, and their dark magic. They were known for being cunning and mischievous, was it a warning? I had to move quickly no matter my uneasiness, the consequences of not showing at all could end nothing but badly. After all I agreed to this meeting, in the interest of diplomacy. No matter how much I wanted desperately, to return and question the strange and hostile wolf, to see if Ivan was indeed okay. But instead I shifted and made my to the waterhole alone.
