Chapter Four

1740 Words
DRAYCE POV It has been a whole week since I had the first dream about my fated. I had been on high alert searching everywhere for the mystery woman with the multi-coloured eyes. My dragon was still agitated, and I had to let him out every night. I tried to convince Nithe that I should stay home and keep searching for my fated but he wasn't having a bar of it. Yes, I was the boss, but he kept me in check. So tomorrow we were leaving for our countrywide trip, visiting all the smaller store holders. My assistant knocked on my office door. “Come,” I said. She walked in and over to my desk. She handed me a folder. “Your itinerary, Mr Roark. The folder also contains all the locations of the stores, the owner’s names, the details of your accommodation and all other information you will need whilst you are gone.” “Thank you, Heidi, when I return, we should discuss giving you a raise and a vacation.” This woman worked damn hard, and although I already paid her a hefty sum, she was worth her weight in gold. “Thank you, sir.” She said with a nod and left. I studied the itinerary for a while to memorise the details. Dragons had incredible memories, which was both a blessing and a curse. It was wonderful for remembering all the important things, but it was a curse when you could not forget all the bad things, like the day you witnessed the m******e of your parents and siblings. But I didn’t need to think about that now. With all the information memorised, I decided to call it quits for the day. I let Nithe know I was heading out. He had a few last-minute things to organise so he would lock everything up. I got in my car and, like I had been doing every day for the last week, I drove around the city, hoping against hope I would spot those mesmerising multi-coloured eyes of my fated. I had never in my life seen such amazing eyes. I stopped at a restaurant and grabbed a bite to eat, constantly scanning the people around me and breathing deeply, waiting for the enticing scent to hit me, but once again I was left frustrated and deeply disappointed. I made it back to the apartment building and found Nithe waiting for me outside the elevator. “You been out scouring the city again?” he asked me. I frowned and nodded. “Did it ever occur to you that maybe she isn’t in the city, that maybe you’re going to find her on our trip? I mean think about it. When did the first dream come?” I thought about what he was saying and realised that the first dream was the night I was advised to go on this trip to visit the store holders. “s**t, you are right, the first dream was the night you told me about visiting the store holders. Do you think that means I will find her while we are on this trip?” I asked him. “Well, it makes sense to me” Nithe replied. I honestly didn’t know how this guy was always so happy and cheerful. He hadn’t found his fated yet either and we were the same age. Like me, he has women of all species throwing themselves at him, but he doesn’t indulge as much as I would have thought he would. He certainly had the looks that women seemed to love. He was tall at six feet four inches, he had blonde hair and a neatly trimmed beard, blue eyes and was nearly as muscular as me. Throw in a couple of tattoos and the women just swooned. Nithe came across as a bit of a player, with his near-constant flirting, but he rarely acted on it and I think deep down he was also waiting for his fated. He followed me into the elevator, and I pushed the number to the top floor, he went to press his number and I stopped him, “Wanna come up for a drink?” I asked him. “Sure, sounds good,” he said. When we reached my floor, I swiped my access card and typed in my code before the elevator doors opened into my lounge room. Nithe removed his tie and jacket and unbuttoned the top couple of buttons on his shirt as he made himself at home. I quickly changed into some comfortable clothes and grabbed a couple of drinks. I slumped down on the couch and took a big mouthful from my glass. I relished the burn it caused down my throat and the way it warmed my belly. “Why have you never actively looked for your fated?” I asked him. He froze and then looked down at his drink before he sombrely replied. “I’m pretty certain she is dead,” he mumbled. I sat bolt upright. “What? But how do you know? When did she die?” he looked up at me and his eyes appeared glassy. “I’ve never said anything before as we never really talked about that day, but I’m pretty certain your sister Chusi was my fated. The night of the m******e, an incredible pain shot through my entire body, rendering me unconscious. When I woke and discovered what had happened, my heart shattered into a million pieces. My one true love, my one chance at being completely happy, died before we even had the chance to find out for sure.” He looked up at me again as he downed the rest of his drink, tears slipped from his eyes, and he wiped them with the back of his hand. “You should have told me, Nithe. You shouldn’t have had to bear that pain alone…” “You shared my pain, you just suffered it for a different reason,” he said. I felt completely numb, my best friend just told me his fated was my little sister who was killed on that horrid night. Then here I was excited to find my own fated. “Don’t do that…I’m OK and I am happy that you will get to have what I never got.” I just couldn’t believe it. That was it for him. “Has there ever been any recorded cases of dragons getting a second chance fated, you know, like werewolves get second chance mates?” I asked him quietly. “To be honest, I have no idea, but I don’t know that I would be able to love someone else, it would just feel wrong,” he said to me as he poured himself another drink. “No don’t be like that, Nithe, you are a great guy and Chusi would want you to have another fated. I will pray to the gods that they will send you another. I loved my sister dearly, but we can’t dwell on what we have lost.” I said to him, downing the last of my drink. “Irad is giving me s**t again, wanna go for a fly?” I asked him to change the subject. “Sure, I haven’t let Draco out for a few days.” He said, trying to pull himself back out of his head. “Alright then, let’s go,” I said and headed towards the stairs to the roof. Once we reached the roof, I shifted first. Being of the highest level of dragon, I didn’t need to remove my clothes to take dragon form. Nithe, being a few levels lower, did need to remove his clothes so he didn’t destroy them. Once I was shifted, I headed up into the night sky and waited for Nithe to join me. About two minutes later, the slightly smaller grey dragon appeared beside me. “How about we head out to the island to burn some s**t?” I said in Nithe’s mind. We discovered a small, forested island just off the coast that no one ever went to. We once again had a witch hide it so we could use it for burning off excess energy by fighting in our dragon forms. “You’re on” Nithe replied and took off. It took about an hour to reach our island. We landed and listened to make sure there was no one there. “What do you want to do? Spar or just do our own thing?” I asked him. “Let’s spar for a bit, then I need to destroy some s**t,” he said in response. “OK, let’s go”. We had a cleared area in the centre of the island we used for sparring. We made our way there and let our dragons go at it. When we sparred, we didn’t hold back. I had to, to some extent, as I was bigger and stronger, but we had almost instant healing, so if one of us inflicted a wound on the other it only hurt for a few seconds. Nithe and I went at it for a good hour before we had both had enough, we then headed over to the furthest side of the island where we could use our fire to destroy s**t. After another good hour, we were both feeling a whole lot better and decided to head back home to get some much-needed rest before our adventure started tomorrow. Once we were back, I shifted first again so Nithe could get dressed without me hanging around. When he finally came back down the hidden stairs, I wished him goodnight and he left for his apartment. I washed up and climbed into my California king bed and drifted off to sleep. That night I once again dreamed about those multi-coloured eyes. They truly captivated me. I had never seen a dragon, or any species really with eyes like those. I couldn’t wait to spend every day gazing into those amazing, unique orbs. I was shocked when I woke up in the middle of the night with a massive hard-on. It normally took a lot for me to get turned on and here I was at full attention from a dream about my fated. I couldn’t wait to finally find the woman who could make me hard by just looking into her eyes.
