CHAPTER 6 ~~DAISY POINT OF VIEW~~ Song playing-Hold up by Beyonce. Hold up…They don't love you like I love you. I sat on the floor of the room, my hair dusty and scattered all over the place. My face was still streaked with tears, and my eyes were red from crying. The last thing I would have expected was to find my husband cheating on me—not in some foreign country or even somewhere far away, but right here in our matrimonial home. I had no one to fall back on, no pack I could report him to right now. The only mini pack here in Greece is Silvercrest, and it's formed by rogues like himself. They agreed among themselves not to have an Alpha. It wasn't really needed since they live among humans. Yes, that's how life in Greece goes. No Alpha no rules just Rogues being Rogues. Dad has never been the yardstick for a good man since Mum left him, but he usually says that when a man respects a woman, he would go far, far away before he buries himself balls deep into another woman’s body that isn’t his wife or mate. He’d never do it in front of her or somewhere close to her. But once he doesn’t get scared and f***s another woman in the same house where he f***s with his wife, then he doesn’t respect her or regard her. My breath caught in my throat as the realization dawned on me. I can’t even help it, even if I want to pretend that it isn’t what it is. Nicholas doesn't give a f**k about me, even if he pretends to. In seventy-two hours, a lot has happened: from aborting my pup because he said so, to them taking out my womb without my permission, and then coming back home to the greatest surprise of my life. I gave that boy a shoulder to lean on, and I propelled him to the top. I made the life he’s living right now, and yet I still find it hard to believe that he just did that. He’s always lying that it isn’t what I think. I mean, I’m not dumb. I saw everything. I saw her panties and her shoes; the only thing he didn’t let me see was the face of the w***e he was f*****g! I wonder why he’s hiding her face so badly. Something is fishy, it’s more than just him cheating. He was guarding that door his entire life. I wish I knew who the b***h was. After a while, I looked around and saw my phone tossed on the floor. I reached for it and picked it up. The first person I texted was Kathy. She’s the only friend who can help me right now. She’s always been good at giving advice. Scrolling through my contacts, I paused and decided against it. Instead, I went for my lawyer's number. That’s the person I need now. I promised myself that if a man cheats on me, I would walk away. I'd never stay! Mom stayed for a while, then one night she just walked off and never returned. I don’t know why she did that as a kid, but now that I've grown into a woman, I think she was just tired. Tired of Dad's whole bullshit. Growing up, I used to shut my door when Mom screamed in the kitchen. Then I’d turn the music up to the loudest volume just so I wouldn't hear Dad and Mom's voices. None of them were ever right. Back then, I swore I would never be like them when I grew up, but right now it’s so clear that loving is hard. Dad never taught me how to fall in love, and Mom was so busy going out every night that she forgot to drop the recipe for attraction or how to keep a family together. Maybe our nanny would have taught me if I hadn’t been too harsh on her just because I never got what I wanted—I wanted Mom and not her. Nicholas cheating was the last straw. I had promised the twelve-year-old girl in me that I’d walk away if my husband ever cheated. Perhaps if Mom had walked away, she’d still be here with me. With that, I quickly texted my lawyer to draw up a divorce agreement. The next moment, a loud knock landed on the door, and I sat up. I didn’t say a word, I just leaned in, listening attentively to recognize who was at the door. “D-d-daisy… please open up the door for me, please.” It was Kiesha. “Please open up, my brother is not here. Please just open up for me. I beg you.” I stood up and went for the door, not because it was her—I just wanted to take my meds that the hospital gave me. Once I walked out, Kiesha pulled me into a tight hug. “I’m sorry…” she whispered sobbing into my shoulders, and my wolf whined low in my chest, confused why another female scent felt familiar with that of our own mate. She smelled like him right now, which would have been suspicious if she weren't his sister. But she is. He must have hugged her or she used his cologne. “I’m sorry he did that to you,” she said, and my brows drew straight lines on my face out of surprise. He’s her family,I'm surprised she’s not supporting her only brother. She helped me out of the room, walking me to the couch in the sitting room. “I’m sorry, Daisy. You need to freshen up. Trust me, girl, it’s not the end of life,” she cheered me up. “What do you plan to do right now? You’re going to push for divorce, right?” I nodded my head in agreement. “Y-yes.” Though I was a little confused, she seemed to know all the details so quickly. Perhaps her brother filled her in. She nodded in agreement with me. “At least you deserve it.” She caressed my shoulder. “I think you should go take your bath right now,you look a mess, Daisy. After that, we can talk about this. I have the best divorce att—” A sharp knock rang out from the door, cutting her off, and we both narrowed our gazes to the door. It wasn’t him,it wasn't Nicholas. If it was him, he’d just walk in,he doesn’t knock at the door. “Are you expecting anyone?” she turned to me. I shook my head. “No, I’m not expecting anyone. Are you?” “No, I’m not.” With that, she scrambled to her feet and moved to the door to check who was on the other side. Once she opened the door, four Greece police officers filled the doorway immediately, and my eyes went wide. My wolf surged forward, claws rising and ready to shift and rip throats until the silver cuffs glinted, and she shrank back, whimpering. She hid far away inside me. Who are they, and what do they want? Since I have been living in this city, no human police have come to our door like this. Something bad must have happened. The thoughts alone sent shivers down my spine. Kiesha’s hand slid off the doorknob. “Uh… can I help……y'all?” “Yes, you can,” the officer in front lifted his palm firmly, seemingly uninterested in pleasantries. “Ma'am, are you Mrs. Daisy Grant?” Kiesha shook her head vigorously. “No, I'm not, sir.” His eyes shifted to me next. “Are you Mrs. Daisy Grant?” “Yes,” I answered confidently. If only I knew… He took out his ID card, waving it in my face. “I'm Officer Dominus from the Homicide Division at police headquarters on Alexandra Avenue. Your husband was brutally assaulted last night—a near-death experience….and you’re one of the prime suspects.” My stomach dropped so fast the room tilted around me. My wolf snarled so violently my ribs shook, her claws prickling under my skin, begging to tear out of me and fight our oppressors. She's yet to recover from her mate breaking her heart and now this He broke our heart, and now they're accusing us wrongly? Why the hell would I want to kill my mate? That would be hurting myself too. Kiesha’s lips parted, but no sound came out. She glanced between me and the officers with frantic eyes. “What? No… no, that can’t….” She let out a breathy pause. “She wouldn’t…” The officer pulled something from his jacket—a tiny recorder sealed in a clear evidence bag. His thumb tapped the plastic. “We have a voice recording from last night. A threat. Someone promised to kill him.” His gaze narrowed towards me. “It’s your voice, Mrs. Grant.” Heat rose in my face so fast, and I swallowed hard. Nicholas is near death… and they think it's me? “I’d never kill my husband!” “You need to come with us. You’re allowed to call your attorney, so you can do that right now.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I looked at the clock in the human police interrogation room where they had kept me, it was 12:45 p.m. This is my first time in a human police station. I'd never been here before in my entire life, though I'd watched it on television and read a couple of things in books. I had been here for hours, and they wouldn't listen to me. My lawyer wasn't here. Right now, I’m not even concerned about whatever case they’re accusing me of. I just need to see Nicholas and know that he's okay. But no one is willing to hear me out. Moments later, the door slid open, and I sat up immediately, it was Kiesha again. I exhaled heavily. “Kiesha…” She rushed in and settled into the metal chair. “How are you doing, Daisy?” She took my hands into hers, squeezing them tightly. “What have they said so far?” My eyes darted to her face, her eyes were shimmering with pity, but she wasn't broken like someone whose brother was near death. “What about Nicholas?” I asked at once, concern edging my voice. She paused and swallowed hard before answering. “He’s not doing too well, but the doctors promise he'll survive. Hopefully, his wolf also heals him quickly.” “I didn’t do this, Kiesha.” I began sobbing again. “I promise you I had no hand in your brother’s ambush.” She looked up at me. “I know, Daisy. You don’t need to tell me,I know you didn’t do this to him. The threats must have been recorded by the woman he brought in.” The door suddenly slid open again, and it was Ms. Anna, my attorney. She's a werewolf, her husband is a Delta, but she's one of the attorneys even in human countries. So good at her job that everyone around the globe wants her. She was one of Mom's old attorneys who had helped me navigate through the world of wealth and entrepreneurship. The moment she walked inside, she stared at me with disappointment in her eyes. I could feel her gaze on my skin. Yes, I knew she was disappointed. She had begged me never to marry Nicholas. ‘No identity anywhere. Zero identity, Daisy. That urchin is a leech. It’s just a matter of time before you see it,’she had said that night, and I had threatened to fire her. Stupid me—I was in love. “I need the room, please,” Ms. Anna announced, walking forward. She dropped her bag and started to take out files. With that Kiesha waved goodbye and stepped out for a minute, leaving just me and Anna. “I’m sorry,” I said shamefully. “I know… I’m sorry.” She didn’t say a word, her eyes just kept darting from my face to the cuffs on my hands. The tension in the room only increased, and I couldn't even look at her face. “As your counsel, I’m trying to keep it very simple and flip it to assault, but according to eyewitnesses, you had every intention to kill him and struck his cheek a few times with pure vigor and killer intent, they said your claws were out and your wolf was ready to kill” Anna explained dragging a chair to settle in. “Did you transform into your wolf to hit him?” “No. Never. I'd never do that. “I sobbed.” I didn't do it, Ms. Anna. I'm innocent. I promise you I am innocent.” “No one was there,” I told her. “There was no one in the room except the w***e, and I never saw her face. She can't be a witness… can she?” She heaved a deep sigh. “It’s quite complicated, Daisy. This is Greece, this is a human country and not the pack. The prosecution is pushing for attempted murder, but I’m doing my best to shift it to just assault.” She paused, her cold gaze shifting to me. “Which is why he cannot die.” “If he dies, Daisy, then they'll bury you in jail for sixteen years. He needs to keep breathing. Pray to the goddess he keeps breathing.” I stared at her, my eyes growing wet with every passing minute as her words rolled off her tongue. She grabbed my hands into hers. “Manslaughter if he dies Daisy, premeditated murder is what it is called over here.” I gasped. “W-what…?” “Yes,” she affirmed. “Your husband must not die, or you'll be serving sixteen to twenty-five years in jail, Daisy.” Sweat slid down my back, rolling down my legs to pool in my heels. “That can't happen.” I shook my head. “You can't let that happen” I started to sob again. “I will try my best, Daisy.” She assured me.”You know I always will.” “You just—” My words were cut short by the opening of the door. Six men walked in all at once and filled the tiny room. I swallowed hard, my hands shaking. “What do they want?” I whispered to her. Anna turned. “Officers, how may I help you? I'm still having a talk with my client, and—” The man walked over and slammed a photo of Nicholas's bloody face on the table. “He's gone. Ten minutes ago. I'm sorry. You're done here, Ms. Anna. She's now a convicted murderer.”
