Chapter 11- A failed Connect

At the top floor of Ocean Sky Grand Hotel, Brian Hayes eyes twitched as he smoked a Cuban cigar, his eyes piercing through the other man sitting the other side of the table. The quick witted enforcer grimaced, studying his partner of five years in the drug business. "It's a weekend Mr Grant, surely this is not a business meeting is it?" He said huffing smoke into the air. "Ofcourse it's not, but it's related," Mr Grant sat up making himself comfortable. He signalled for his two bodyguards to leave them in private.  "How so?" With his smile still in place, Mr Grant continued, "We have coorprated in business for more than five years Mr Hayes. Even when you made mistakes I killed the fire before it schotched. With that being said, I need a favour from you today." "Shoot, Mr Grant." "It's really quite easy, my son has a lady in his mind, to steal her heart, he needs coorperation between the Jackson Five Conglomerate Corporation and her Jefferson Corporation. I hear the project they are working on is worth five billion. A billion worth of a project is what I'm asking for, for all times sake." Brian Hayes had been expecting the old man to say such things. He took a deep pull and and exhaled, making bubbles of smoke. "I'm sorry to disappoint you this time Mr Grant. One of my partner's runs the Jackson Five Corporation on behalf of my boss. As a result I cannot directly interfere, even as the CEO of the business chains." "What? You have a master?" Mr Grant was surprised. "Who is your Master Mr Hayes?" "His name is Mr Anonymous. That's how low-card he plays." "I understand that, but surely a word from you could turn the tide." Mr Grant pressed on, clenching his fist.  "Like I said Mr Grant, that company is out of my hands. I'm sorry but I can't help you." "Brain Hayes! I'm your superior in the cartel hierarchy. You will do what I say." Mr Grant hit the table in anger. Brian Hayes did not even flinch. He remained seated and out came a wry grin. "This is not 'shadow' business related Mr Grant. This is my personal and legal business, it's got nothing to do with the streets. Please see yourself out." Mr Grant stood up and left, anger seething through his veins. 'I will show this bastard who I am,' he thought.   Brian reached for his cellphone, he typed a quick update to Barry and put the phone away before continuing with his business of the day.   At the Jefferson family home, Barry got the message and smiled. "What are you smiling about when we reprimanding you huh, Barry? You nearly put my daughter in harm's way by your reckless behaviour today!" Susan yelled.  "Mum-" Barry attempted to explain. "Who's your mum huh? Don't dare call me your mother you fool-" "Mum, I saw an opportunity to escape and I took it. What if the robbers finally shot everyone after we left? Atleast we all safe now." "Barry, that was reckless. If we continued to lie down we would also had been very safe." Tanya spoke looking at Barry, dissapointed. "And why did you put your life at risk by claiming to know the manager huh?" The two women took turns scholding Barry and he decided to apologize to shut them up before heading to his room and shutting the door closed. He whipped out his cellphone and smiled at Hayes message again. It was already evening, all he had to do next was relax and wait for Marcus to make a joke out of himself the next day.  "Wait a minute." Monica remembered, "the grocery, we never got to find out how Barry paid for the grocery." "I don't even wanna know," Tanya replied still annoyed.  Monica sat down thinking, she couldn't help but feel Barry Jackson was a strange man. How did he manage to pay for a six thousand dollar bill? "It can't be..."
