New school experience

It was a sharp and brilliant Thursday morning. The sun seemed to have a long way to go, so it rose early, glowing red and hot, hanging in the sky like a fireball. Obi and his pen friends had just finished dressing and were on their way to the refectory for breakfast when a senior called them. They were so frightened because they knew no senior ever called juniors for anything good. They kept whispering questions to themselves, questions they could not find answers to. When they reached where the senior was, Samuel, Akam, and Ade noticed a white cup on top of a half-broken desk. They felt a bit relieved because they already knew what was coming—it was now meant for Obi to cooperate with them. Chris, the senior, popularly known as “Lucifer,” examined them one after the other before pointing at Obi to step forward. He handed him the cup, which was filled with water. “Turn this water into brown,” Lucifer said, looking stern and focused. Obi was shocked because he did not understand what this was all about. He turned to look at his friends to see if they were also shocked, but to his surprise, they weren’t. It seemed they already knew what Lucifer meant and were giving him signs. Obi glanced at them for a while and finally figured out that they were trying to tell him to put something inside the cup. “But what?” he thought. He kept contemplating what action to take. On the other hand, Lucifer was getting furious. “Don’t waste my time, you fool!” he yelled. Obi suddenly came up with an idea. He reached for his school bag and brought out a brown poster color and emptied it into the cup. Obi was congratulating himself for a job well done when an unexpected slap landed on his face. It came from Lucifer. Obi was confused. “Are you stupid?” Chris shouted, pouring the mixture on him. “Don’t you know you were supposed to mix beverages inside the water?” “I’m so sorry, senior. I was not aware,” Obi pleaded. “Yes, senior, he is unaware. He is a fresher,” his friends added. “In that case, I was supposed to beat the hell out of you, but I have changed my mind. Now take this cup and go and half-fill it with beverages,” Chris ordered. Obi really saw hell in the hands of senior students at NOBLE CHILD BOYS SCHOOL. He faced many challenges like tail-cutting rituals and others, but there was one experience he could never forget. It was a sunny afternoon. Obi had just realized that he had forgotten one of his notebooks in the hostel. Although he knew that going to the hostel during learning hours was strictly prohibited, he had no choice because the notebook was needed for the next subject, and the teacher handling it was feared by all due to his strict behavior. He was nicknamed “Mr. No-nonsense.” So Obi decided to take the risk and go back to the hostel. Obi’s journey to the hostel went smoothly. But on his way back, he encountered a problem. As Obi was coming out of the dormitory building, almost thanking his lucky stars, he suddenly felt a change in the atmosphere. It grew tense. The trees stopped moving, the birds stopped chirping, and the ground seemed to stare at him with pity. It was as though everything was in silent warning of an imminent danger. Just at that moment, he saw five senior students standing, blocking the route that led from the dormitory to the learning class, which was miles away. Obi’s heart sank because he knew he was in trouble.
