Chapter 12: The Interview

Pov Calista "Cali"

I woke up earlier than usual today. I wanted to get ready to leave. I have to take the bus I don't want to be late. I rather get to the city early.

Ethan had left at 6 am stating he had a lot of work today. So I was alone I looked over myself in the mirror. I was in a black fitted pencil skirt with a slit in the back so my movements weren't so restricted. It was too tight for my liking it hugged my curves in all the right places but this is what's supposedly in right now. It fell right above the knee. I put on some sheer stockings and classic black pumps. I was still deciding on my top but silk I was leaning toward a silk navy blue top that I would tuck in. These were some of the things Ethan had got me. I looked myself over in the mirror not bad.

I applied light makeup on my face. which was just brown eyeliner making my eyes pop. Mascara shaped and filled my eyebrows naturally. The finish was a natural light pink lipstick. For my hair, I decided on a tight bun with a few bangs to the sides for face framing. I looked pretty damn good. Jewelry I used some studded earrings and a very classy dainty watch that I had made myself it was unique. I fit the part of a designer but I would have to go get fabrics if I get hired to make more clothes like this we didn't have a lot of money to keep spending.

I looked at the clock it was 8 am okay time to go I grab my purse that has my samples and all my documents. I grabbed my coat and took off I need to get to the bus stop I was so scared to be late.

It was close to 920 when I arrived my interview was at 10 30 am. I stood there in front of Evan Industry the building was it was the most modern building in the area with a sleek design huge windows and doors. I can't believe this I can't believe Ethan pulled this off for me.

I had time to kill so I went to a coffee store located next to the building I need more coffee and to go over questions.

I was sitting there drinking my coffee and going over my notes. When someone tapped me on the shoulder I looked up.

A handsome young man I hadn't seen in a long time. was talking I told him to give me a second I pulled out my headphones. I smiled at him Jeff one of my classmates. One of Pauls's best friends and came from wealth as well.

"Hey, Jeff long time no see. how are you?" I asked He smiled at me he always wanted me to go out with him but I had no interest I was always unsure why guys always wanted me. I wasn't that pretty I was just a normal girl. Paul was the only one to get me to go out and look where that got me.

"I'm good! I work at Evans Industry. I just need some coffee. What are you doing here?" he said. "How funny I have an interview with the fashion department. any pointers." I asked. "No but i hear it's difficult to get an interview in that department amazing job I bet you will do great. I'm in the IT department," he said with a smile. "Cool so if I get hired I will see you often." I said trying to be polite.

"Yeah, you will I will make sure I'm the one in of charge setting your computer up... He listen I'm sorry I heard about you and Paul. Just know that I'm here if you want to talk. If you get hired today one of these days we can go grab a drink and catch up?" he said

Well, what a great guy he had to bring Paul. I smiled "It's fine I doing better and sure that's a nice invitation." I said with a fake smile

I looked at the time he seemed to pick up on the vibe I was putting out "I gotta go get the job Larson. That way we can see more of each other." he said I smiled and said bye.

I finished everything when I looked at the time it was 10:15. No harm in being early. I walk into the Evans Industry I'm so nervous! this is everything I don't get this job and I might as well give up my dream.

I walk over to the reception and let her know why I'm there. She gives me a welcome packet and more forms to fill out and tells me to have a seat.

As I'm sitting there I take a look around and I have to remember to thank Ethan for the clothes again. Everywhere I look there are fashionable people both men and women. If I would have worn something I had in my closet I would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Maybe I will make a meatloaf he did say that was his favorite.

As I'm sitting there thinking of things I might need for dinner. When I saw a bunch of tall bodyguards I think surrounding a man. You could tell he had a nice physique and he had a commanding aura. I wonder if it could be Aaron Evans. I saw dirty blonde hair under a hat he had his head down He had very broad shoulders and he was tall. He disappeared into an elevator. I kept an eye on it straight to the top floor. Oh my God! it was him. His figure reminded me of Ethan but that was impossible. I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard my name "Calista Larson." called by a young man.

I got up and went over I introduced myself and followed him to what I assumed was where my interview will be.

I walked in and there were three others in there they were both women and I knew one. My heart fell it had to be Jade's best friend seriously! and to top it off f**king Jeff worked here. She had always been after him but he was always trying to get my attention. Laura always blamed me for this like it's my fault Jeff had a thing for me. Why can't I catch a small break in this life?

They ask me to have a seat. I hand copies of my resume, samples, and portfolio. They all seemed Impressive well except for Laura. They were all asking me questions when suddenly Laura said "I'm sorry to tell you this Ms.Larson but I don't believe we can offer you a position at this time." she said with a smug look. The other two just looked at her.

"Why not asked the man. She would be a perfect addition to the design department. Some of these designs I have never even pictured making." he said.

"I have to agree with Ed on this one. This quite Impressive for a young lady her age." she said.

"Thank you. for the compliments I try very hard and love what I do." I replied.

"Did you happen to fill out the questionnaire we sent?" the other lady asked

"Yes, I did ma'am I emailed it back to Laura." I said. The other two looked at Laura "Well let's see it?" asked the man.

Laura was looking pale. "She is lying sir she never emailed me anything. I would have brought it in. It figures she would lie. She has quite the reputation for being dishonest." she said quickly.

Jade had to be behind this. You know what no if I'm not getting tired of this if I'm not getting the job. I have nothing to lose. "Excuse me for a moment if you will" I said with a smile. I pulled out my phone and found the email I sent. I hand my phone over to Ed. He looked taken back he shot his head at Laura.

"It looks like she emailed it to you yesterday Laura and you received it. Also, this form is for seasoned designers trying to get promoted not one for entry-level. Care to explain?" he asked quite irritated. "I might have sent it by accident. I didn't purposely do it. Plus she should have at least tried on the form." she said smugly. They were passing around my phone. "These questions are almost all correct." said the other women.

Nothing you could hear a pin drop. "Laura, is there something you need us to know? do you know Ms.Larson?" asked the other women.

"I know of her and from what I've been told she is a lair a thief and an extortionist. At least that's what her Mother and Sister said. I was trying to prevent a waste of time here." she said confidentiality. They both looked at me and her. "Well, it seems we will not be able to offer you a job Ms.Larson at this time. We are very sorry but we can't have a person like what Laura described working here." he said

"Okay Thank you for your time."I said I was going to cry but I wouldn't do it here. I can't believe they just took her word. No questions asked. I grabbed all my stuff and left. I was rushing out when I bumped into Jeff.

"Hey Cali how did it go?" he asked and I smiled at him and shook my head "Doesn't seem like it was in my cards. I didn't get the job but it's fine don't worry...I gotta go" I said. Turning to leave.

I felt his hand on my arm "Wait Cali let me see if I can do something to help." he said "I gotta go Jeff." I said while pulling myself free. I could hear him yelling for me. When I got outside I went to the closest store and went to the bathroom. I cried this was devastating f**king Medusa and Her evil Spawn. Why did they hate me so much?

It had been about 15 minutes when my phone rang I look it's Ethan. I pick up my voice cracking. "Hello?" I whispered.

"What's wrong? are you crying?" he said with concern. "Yes, but this isn't because I want to do this out of frustration Ethan. Jane and Jade have their claws in deep" I said.

"Why?!" he practically yelled.

I told him how everything went down That one of the interviewers was Jade's best friend and how she gaslighted me and they took her word and sent me on my way. He didn't say anything for a minute. "I will handle this don't worry." He hung up before I could answer. What? how will he handle this?
