Chapter 1: "The Funeral" The sun cast a somber glow over the mourners gathered at the funeral. Alex stood rigid, his eyes fixed on the casket holding his friend Victor's lifeless body. The grief was suffocating, but Alex's mind raced with questions. How could Victor be gone? They had plans, dreams, and adventures yet to come. As the service ended, Alex approached the casket, his eyes welling up with tears. He whispered a final goodbye, his voice cracking with emotion. Sophia, Victor's girlfriend, approached him, her eyes red from crying. "Alex, I'm so sorry. I can't believe he's gone." Alex hugged her tightly. "Me neither, Sophia. I keep thinking this is all a nightmare, and Victor will walk in, laughing and joking like always." Sophia pulled back, her eyes searching his. "Do you think...do you think his death had something to do with our argument?" Alex frowned. "What argument?" Sophia hesitated. "We had a fight a few days ago. It was stupid, but...I didn't think it was that serious. We were supposed to meet up the next day to talk things through, but...he never showed up." Alex's mind raced. Could their fight have led to Victor's death? He needed answers. "Tell me more about the argument," Alex pressed, his eyes locked on Sophia's. Sophia sighed. "It was just a silly misunderstanding. Victor had been acting strange, distant, and I accused him of not caring about our relationship. He got defensive, and we both said things we didn't mean." Alex's eyes narrowed. "Did he say anything specific? Anything that might give us a clue about what happened?" Sophia shook her head. "No, nothing concrete. But...he did mention something strange. He said he had to take care of something, something that would change everything." Alex's instincts screamed that Sophia was hiding something. He made a mental note to dig deeper into their argument. Just then, James, Victor's business partner, approached them, his expression somber. "Alex, my condolences. Victor was a great partner and friend." Alex's eyes narrowed. "James, what happened? Victor was healthy, happy...what went wrong?" James's gaze faltered for a moment before he replied, "I don't know, Alex. Maybe it was just his time. We'd been working on a big project, and the stress might have gotten to him." Alex's eyes locked onto James'. "What project? Victor never mentioned anything significant." James shifted uncomfortably. "It was just a business deal, nothing too exciting. But...Victor was acting strange in the days leading up to his death. He was distant, preoccupied." Alex's mind raced. What was Victor involved in? And how did it lead to his death? As they spoke, Elijah, the cult leader, watched from a distance, his eyes fixed on Alex with an unnerving intensity. Alex felt a shiver run down his spine. What did Elijah know about Victor's death? Suddenly, Sophia gasped. "Alex, look!" She pointed to a figure lurking at the edge of the funeral procession. Alex's eyes followed her gaze. It was a woman, dressed in black, her face obscured by a veil. She seemed out of place among the mourners. "Who is that?" Alex asked, his curiosity piqued. Sophia's eyes were wide with fear. "I don't know, but...I think I saw her arguing with Victor a few days ago. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now..." Alex's mind raced. Another suspect? Another clue to unravel? As the funeral procession began, Alex couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Victor's death seemed too sudden, too mysterious. He made a silent vow to uncover the truth, no matter how painful it might be...
