Ronnie's POV
"Have you seen Thompson? Thompson!" I hissed at people, one by one, the moment I got inside the office. Some were startled, some were pissed, but really, I could care less, they're not my priority here.
Minutes passed when I saw Thompson talking and laughing with some people I'm not familiar with. It's about time! I approached them which no one had notice at first, so I had to clear my throat for Thompson to atleast notice me. As soon as Thompson saw me, he excused himself and bid his farewell.
He signaled me first to go somewhere quieter before I can even say something. Both of us went to the fire exit like he suggested to and without further ado, I showed him the newspaper which I've been holding since this morning.
"This is absurd." I massaged my temple and took a deep breathe before continuing my words. "35-year old lady killed by her own husban---are you kidding me?"
"We both know that I have nothing to do with tha--"
"But you're letting this slip through! For what? To make a fool out of these people reading this? So they'd say, 'oh wow, they're pretty great at handling these bullcrap. Case closed.' So much for the people that's seeking for justice." My pitch were starting to rise a bit causing for some of the people that's passing by to look at us with havoc.
He sighed and turned his back away from me in which I still continued to tail. Heck, I'm not done yet. "Thom--"
"Look," he paused the moment he faced me.
"If you want to talk to someone about that. You know who he is, it ain't me." he firmly added.
"Won't you atleast do something about this? When will you guys stop giving people spoiled milk? It ain't good for everyone." I hissed, all pissed.
He looked straight at my eyes for about five seconds, and just left. What? That's that? No nothing?
I slapped my forehead out of frustration and decided to just go straight to Lopez for this matter, but then, one hand suddenly held my left arm causing me to stop from even taking my first step.
And I had my thoughts on who this guy could be.
"Wrights. Let go."
"Why? I wanna come with you."
I rolled my eyes. For a moment there, I thought he's here to stop me. But then again, that's Wrights, I don't know what's going on inside his chamber. Could be pretty messy.
We then both went looking for Lopez and like expected, he was nowhere to be found. He was much harder to find than Thompson. Guess he already knew what's coming, a big storm's coming ahead, so now the squirrel took shelter.
I mean, seriously, he does look like a squirrel.
Clock striked at twelve and there's still no sign about Lopez's whereabouts.
"I'm starving, aren't you?" Wrights suddenly blurted, the moment we head back to our office, looking frustrated.
"I didn't feel it, but now that you've mentioned it." I threw the newspaper back to my table and grab my coat. "I want something heavy.." I continued.
"A big momma?" Wrights joked.
I rolled my eyes. "No. Not that."
"But still works, right? Let's go!"
The moment we were about to head off, as if on cue, through my peripheral vision I saw Lopez who was about to go out of his car with some other people.
"Lopez!" I yelled, getting his attention and the others' too.
I noticed him said something to them and afterwards, he walked towards us with his hands in his pockets. "Why hello, friends! Oh, we were at another scene, but no worries, it was all taken care of."
My brows went straight. "Why didn't you tell us?"
"Tell you? Oh, but for what?"
"For us to atleast help?"
He then covered his mouth as if stopping himself to burst with laughter. "Help? Ridiculous. Who needs your help? Certainly, not I!"
"You're not taking everything serious. You're not even looking at clues properly nor analysing the situation, yet you're already spreading lies." I blurted.
I was about to take the newspaper out so I could speak to him about that matter but then I remembered that I left it inside, on the table. How great. In the corner of my eye I noticed some of the people that's passing by are looking at us weirdly.
Lopez then smiled and waved at them like a candidate reminding them about the money he just gave them to buy their votes.
He also smiled at me and even put his arms around my shoulders that made me very uncomfortable.
"You know Lewis, humans are easy to fool, to control. Once you put something there they'll grab it, as long as it's trendy, it doesn't matter if it's clean or not." he paused, faked a smile and tapped me on my shoulder. "Already said and done." he simply said and started to walk away which I didn't bother to stop.
"Tabo--"
"You still holding on that case? What's with it anyway?" Wrights asked while chewing the meat cheerfully.
"You know Wrights, there's something here that I couldn't just let go. I don't know what's with it which is why I'm going to find it out. You know me." I answered.
"Are you sure about that? Or you just want to gain Lopez's trust again?"
I was taken aback. "Hey, that was a one time default."
"And we thought the truth would set him free and there he was drowning himself more in the abyss." he replied.
"He's just caught up by his past."
"I mean, who wouldn't? His son killed and r***d his own wife and the poor guy wouldn't accept the truth. I guess that kid's rotting in jail now." he said in between of his chewing.
"The kid's been doing drugs, atleast he admitted his act before everything went out of hand. It's just his father that didn't take it well."
I sighed and put my phone down where I keep scanning. I took a picture of that paper so that it wouldn't be lost with me or more destroyed than it usually are, I'm pretty clumsy for a detective. So, I left the original one at my place.
Questions keeps creeping inside my mind like little spider legs, it won't stay still. It wants to do its job.
"This place never chill." I said out of the blue.
"Tell me about it."
I took a big chunk on my own steak as my mind wanders off, again. It's settled. "I'm gonna end this." I grab my phone once again and dialled a friend.
"Hey Rai--"
"Now, what do you want?"
"Just this once. Please, listen.."
"What did Yukihira say? She in?"
I nodded to Wrights as I took the results from his hands, it's about the incident that happened yesterday in that coffee shop.
"Just what I thought, he was poisoned by that chick. And she really left an evidence of the chemical she used. Samantha Dela Torre, e? Sweet."
"You like bad girls now?" he joked.
I shook my head. "Nah, just a shame that that pretty face will be stuck in jail."
"Was she really clumsy or did she do that in purpose?" he asked which got me thinking.
Did she?
