CHAPTER 5

1260 Words
SIX YEARS LATER Exactly six years after Sierra walked out on her mother-in-law and left the country early in the morning. Now she's back with Alex, her four-year-old son,, and Rachel, their trusted nanny for years. Six years ago, she had not only left her home, but she had left the country, and now, she was going back. Not because she had any desire to confront her past, but because she wanted to return to the elegant country for her upcoming model contest business, and only wanted to use this opportunity to bring her little son, who has been dying to see the country. Images of the past six years flickered before her eyes- the deception of Victor, Veronica's betrayal, the abrupt departure, the loneliness and regret after her father's death, the struggles with her sister, and the unexpected pregnancy. A pang of anger shot through her as she thought of her mother-in-law’s ultimatum to her on that morning: six-year-old marriage to Victor or being cut off. All of those don't matter now; all that mattered was her little boy. Alexander was now the joy of her life, and the best part of her life was being his mother. Looking down at Alex, who was fast asleep and nestled beside her, a radiant smile lit up Sierra's face, “My bundle of love and joy,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotions as she leaned down and kissed Alex's forehead. Alexander, feeling her mother's lips, sleepily opened her eyes and returned the smile before drifting back off. Looking into Alex's blue eyes, which she believed Alex had inherited from her handsome father. The memories of her carefree night with a stranger surfaced. She pushed the memory aside, not wanting to think about it or about the stranger who had given her the best gift of her life—Alexander. She didn't want to think about how she had slept with a stranger whose name she did not know, and whose face she could not remember, in a desperate attempt to numb the pain of betrayal. No matter how great the s*x had been, or the fact that she sometimes thought about how a perfect stranger had managed to make her feel so good, she didn't want to dwell on that. Especially not when she wasn't even sure she would be able to recognize the stranger if they ever crossed paths again. As her cab drove them to their reserved hotel to stay for a few days before moving down to her newly bought penthouse. Alex chattered endlessly as he looked out the window, asking questions which Rachel happily answered while Sierra was preoccupied with her thoughts. The taxi driver's voice snapped her out of her reverie. “Here, we are, ma'am,” He announced,, pulling in front of the Luxurious Domus's Palace Hotel. She only intended to spend just two to three days before going to a newly bought apartment. Sierra thanked him, fumbling slightly as she paid the fare while the charges got out of the cab. She also owns her cars,, but she can't drive any of them. She calls her driver whenever she needs one of them, but today she wanted to enter the cab and experience what it's like since those years. As soon as Sierra turned to go into the hotel, she paused when it suddenly dawned on her that she was standing in front of the same hotel where she had spent the night with the stranger six years ago, and she also remembered how he acted as if he were the owner the other day too. When the Domus’s Place had been recommended to her as a child-friendly hotel. She had not thought much of it before making reservations here. She was only convinced that Domus means home in Latin, and that was already comforting enough. Was it a coincidence that this was the first place she was staying after six years away? The very same place she had spent her last life, and where her son was conceived. A knot of nervous excitement tightened in Sierra's stomach. It was a strange coincidence, a full circle moment that both unsettled and exhilarated her. Memories, sweetbitter flickered at the edges of her mind, but she quickly pushed them away and took a deep breath to calm herself. After all, it's just for a few days. As Sierra and her little crew stepped into the hotel lobby, a neatly and well-spoken uniform figure came, whisking away their luggage with practiced ease. “Welcome to the Domus's Palace, ma'am. Let me help with your luggages,” He offered, already lifting the suitcases. Sierra nodded, mumuring her thanks before turning to Rachel, “There's a seat over there, you both should sit there, while I check us in,” Sierra instructed Rachel. The lobby buzzed with activities. Crystal chandeliers twinkled overhead them casting a gentle glow on plush armchairs and the wall picture frames. Taking Alex's hand, whose eyes were wide open with wonder, Rachel led her to a sofa where they both sat down, while Sierra went ahead to approach the reception desk. “Good Evening, I have a reservation under Sierra Gray.” The receptionist, a young woman with a bright smile, began typing on her system. “Welcome, Ms. Gray, so happy to have a successful model at our hotel. Please just a moment while I pull up your reservation.” Obviously, she wasn't the one on duty the day she and the stranger came in six years ago, and even if she is, I doubt if she would remember. Meanwhile, Rachel and Alex sat, settled into their seats in the lobby. Rachel sat with a serene expression, observing Alex as he gazed around, seeing everyone coming in and out, admiring the view with his blue eyes, taking in the beauty of the hotel. Across from them, a tall figure with a pierced nose and ear, chewing gum loudly cake in with a man by his side, which caught Alexander's eye. Curiosity tagged at him as he moved closer to the extreme end of the sofa, his gaze fixed on the man. As if sensing his own blood, he came to a pause, lifted his head with a genuine smile crinkled at the corners of his eyes, when he saw the little boy staring directly at him. The boy's eyes are bright with curiosity. “Hello, little one! How are you doing?” Dominic approached him and greeted him with a friendly smile as he looked over the handsome little boy in front of him. “I am good, Mister, chewing gum is so bad for your health, and those piercings on your ear and nose are also not good enough!” He declared, his voice clear as he pointed at his nose and ears descriptively. “Alex!” Rachel scolded, but Dominic chuckled, a warm smile as he spat out the gum in his mouth and threw it into the recycling wastebin nearby, and removed the gold rings from his ears and nose. “Is that right?” He asked, amusement dancing in his eyes as Alex’s face lifted up in response, “Well, where did you learnt that from, little one?” “My mommy,” Alex replied, pointing at the woman receiving her reservation from the receptionist's desk Dominic's gaze shifted to the desk just as Sierra turned to look at his little boy, as she locked eyes with Dominic, the six-year-old stranger. For a moment, the earth stood still.
