CHAPTER TWO
At four in the morning, I was already done with packing my stuff. I didn't have enough bags to put all my stuff in, but I had to make do with what I had.
I opened my door slowly and with one step after the other, I got to the living room.
When I climbed down the staircase, I made eye contact with two pairs of eyes; my father's and stepmother's.
They had been waiting for me in the living room, but why?
The presence of them in the living room like this made me feel sick to my stomach. They were really waiting for me to leave my bedroom and move to the artic.
"The artic is that way." Ava, my stepmother, pointed to the wooden staircase that was on the other side of the living room.
I made a face and walked towards the direction she pointed to.
I dropped my big bags and climbed the staircase with my smallest bag.
While I was climbing, I heard my dad whisper "finally" to Ava and Ava responded with a chuckle.
I shook my head and continued.
When I finally got to the artic, what I saw really broke my heart. The arctic looked really dirty and unkept like it hadn't been cleaned in months.
Of course it hadn't been cleaned in months, who cleans the arctic anyway? The arctic is meant to be for old stuff and not somebody's biological daughter.
Tons of empty carton boxes, a bunch of old clothes, little creatures; rats, cockroaches, bugs, filled the whole place and I could only look around in an utmost disgust and surprise.
I ran down the staircase to the living room and I saw nobody in the living room, they had left.
A big sigh escaped my mouth and I carried my other bags, knowing that I am really stuck in the artic for now.
The bright light that poured through the dirty window in the artic woke me up. I suddenly stood up from the bedsheet that I had spread on the floor before I slept off hours ago. I looked around and saw that I was really in the artic and it wasn't a crazy dream that I thought I had.
I heard a loud c***k from my back and an "ouch" escaped my mouth. I had never slept on the floor before and definitely not in an artic.
I feel very tired and weak because I spent most of my early morning clearing this whole place up, making it a little bit conducive to sleep in before I finally decided to let my back rest just a few hours ago.
"Wait, is this where I will be staying from now on?" I asked myself. The sudden realization of my new lifestyle dawned on me and I knew that I was done for.
Sharing a room with rats isn't a good thing to happen to a teenage girl, not when she used to have her own bedroom to herself.
I hissed loudly and stood up from where I was.
What am I supposed to do now?
On a normal morning, I would have gone to my bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth, but now things have obviously changed.
Nothing is normal anymore and definitely not my mornings.
There isn't a bathroom in here, is there? The artic was big enough for me, but the probability of it having a bathroom seemed really low to me.
I walked around the artic carefully, searching for a substitute for a bathroom or a toilet at least.
I saw a small door and I opened it. I was really surprised to see a bathroom there. It was really small, but it was there, that's all that matters.
"Isn't the artic made with wood?" I asked myself. Seeing a bathroom in an artic is something you don't see everyday.
I tried to adapt to my new lifestyle by following my morning routine first.
I had my bath, did my hair and got dressed.
Before going down the staircase, I hesitated a little bit. Natalie knowing that I now sleep in the arctic is going to be really bad for me, she's so mean. She's definitely going to make fun of me.
I went downstairs anyway, knowing that Ava and my dad would have told her so, no need to hide.
When I got downstairs, I saw the three of them already having their breakfast. I started walking slowly towards them, I was a little bit scared to ask for my meal.
I had gotten used to them not giving me breakfast or serving my food somewhere else; somewhere far away from them, so I just stood there and watched them eat.
"Your meal is outside." My dad interrupted my thoughts. When he talked, Natalie and Ava turned to look at me at the same time, I ignored their side talks and I looked at my father instead. I noticed that he was trying to avoid my eyes.
Him avoiding my eyes made me remember what he said many hours ago about not wanting to see my face because he hates me.
This memory brought me back to reality and I left the living room immediately.
Before leaving the living room, I saw the look Natalie gave me, like she wanted to hurt me or something closely related. I shrugged the look off, knowing that she had been like that for years.
I went outside and I did meet my food there. I was a little bit okay with this because they didn't starve me today.
Natalie's pov
When I saw Aurora coming down from the arctic, an unknown kind of happiness washed over me. I sure do love to see her suffer.
I wanted to make fun of her right there, but another idea came to my head.
Today being an already great day, I decided to have a little bit of fun with Aurora like I used to, but this time is going to be a little bit different.
I decided to put her in a little bit of trouble, just a little.
I smiled to myself, knowing that I was going a little bit crazy about all these. My dad noticed my expression and he asked me if anything was wrong with me. I told him no and continued smiling to myself.
Oh God, being Aurora's stepsister is finally starting to be really fun. Now, I get to put her in a lot of trouble.
Last night, I went out to a party to have fun because I deserve it. I mean, who doesn't love fun, am I right?
I can still feel the rush of the adrenaline that I felt last night, last night was really amazing.
It started off with my baby, my lovely mate; Jared, calling me out around nine yesterday night to come to a party, and because of how much I love parties and most importantly, how much I love Jared, I couldn't just say no, so I knew that I had to sneak out one way or another.
I successfully snuck out of the house thirty minutes past nine, with my red dress and my blue heels. I had been keeping the outfits for a while now, I loved how they looked on me.
I waited until I was sure that everyone was asleep including that girl that I call my stepsister; Aurora. Ugh, stepsister my foot.
I had snuck out with my dad's car keys, so when I saw that everyone was asleep, I walked to the car space quietly and I switched the car on.
I was really grateful that it didn't make noise, so nobody noticed. I was really happy when I made it to the party successfully.
Around seven minutes past twelve, I knew that I had to come back home even though I was really drunk. I had taken a lot of drinks from Jared's mouth and I drank more too. Jared was also drunk too, we were both gone.
When we were in the car, Jared kept on telling me that he could see two roads in front of him. I just knew that it was the alcohol talking, so I just ignored him.
The next sound that I heard brought me back to my senses and it definitely wiped off any form of drunkenness, Jared was sober now too.
He had hit my dad's car against a tree. I screamed and hit Jared severally with one heel of my shoe.
I had to stop because I knew that hitting him won't do any good to the damage that he had caused. I dropped him there and drove my dad's car back to the car space in our home. I was really scared, so I just snuck back in and ran to my bed.
Fortunately for me, no one noticed my absence, but dad's car…anyone that has eyes would see the damage that I had caused.
Seeing Aurora now gave me a perfect idea, I'm going to blame the damage on her and tell dad that she was the one that snuck out and definitely not me.
Aw, poor Aurora is going to cry. I like that.
I rubbed my hands together in a malicious way and left the table immediately.
