FADER WAS DREAMING. At least, he thought he was. He stood atop a crystal mountain rising from a crystal jungle in the center of a crystal island. Above, jagged blue lightning streaked across a silver dome of a sky, setting the island ablaze with color and light as surfaces became prisms and mirrors. With the rumbling thunder that followed each bolt, the glass jungle below tinkled like a street busker’s xylophone. A storm-tossed sea ringed the island, a sea so black it seemed to eat light, reflecting none of the blazing display above it. Yes, normally he’d say he was dreaming. But ever since his fading power went gonzo, he couldn’t be sure he hadn’t slipped into yet another weird world. He felt like he was dreaming, though.
