LEAVING THE WOODEN pier behind, Case led Fader and the irritating Patel woman into the tunnel. The passage followed the black river, which burbled and muttered beside them. Rani, Case noticed, stayed well away from the water. Torches flaming in wall sconces lit their way in bloody hues, reflecting off the carved black rock and dancing the shadows around them.
