Chapter 11: Thorns and Shadows

The greenhouse was darker than before, the moon hidden behind storm clouds. The air was sharp with the scent of metal and moss, and the wind hissed through the shattered panes like a warning.
Nora stood in the center of it all, locket clenched in her fist.
She’d come back, not because she trusted easily, but because her instincts screamed that answers lay here. She hadn’t told Nolan. She hadn’t told anyone. Just a note left beneath her pillow in case she didn’t return.
The creak of footsteps snapped her attention toward the far side.
Serena emerged from the shadows like a ghost cloaked in rage.
“You’re brave,” Serena said, her heels clicking on the broken tiles. “Or just stupid.”
Nora didn’t flinch. “Why are you here?”
“Because I warned you,” Serena hissed. “This world doesn’t belong to you. That family doesn’t belong to you. He doesn’t belong to you.”
“You knew the truth,” Nora said slowly, realization dawning. “All this time—you knew I was her.”
“I found out two years ago,” Serena admitted, voice low. “But they chose you. The moment they see you, it’s over for me. I won’t let that happen.”
Nora took a shaky breath. “You had everything I didn’t. Love. Luxury. A name. And you’re still empty.”
Serena’s face twisted, rage burning in her eyes.
And then she pulled a tiny black vial from her pocket. “You won’t remember this conversation.”
Nora’s eyes widened. “What is that?”
“A little help from someone who hates you just as much as I do. A serum. One drop, and your memories won’t just fade—they’ll shatter. You’ll be nothing but a ghost again.”
She lunged.
But before she could reach Nora, a blur crashed into her—Nolan.
“Get away from her!” he roared, pinning Serena to the ground.
Nora stumbled back, breathless, heart pounding.
Moments later, Julian and Zane burst in, eyes wide, both of them rushing to her side.
Serena screamed under Nolan’s grip. “This isn’t over! You don’t belong here!”
But even as she fought, the truth had already taken root.
Nora remembered.
Everything.
