“Carissima David, I told you this would happen. You never listen to your superiors.” “What? What did I do wrong? Shut up, you tired queen. Where are my Doan’s?” Bill, realizing that this would go on for a while and it was only seven-thirty in the morning, moved away from the door jamb and went out to the narrow deck outside the front door. He sat on the top step of the staircase leading from the second story of the Bull Finch to the small paved driveway where they’d parked the Olds. When he went back inside to refill his coffee cup, he saw that Lou and David had retreated to their respective bedrooms. Bill went outside again, walked down the stairs, then out to the large deck overlooking the beach. There were a dozen rusty chaise lounges on it, but no Bull Finch guests yet other than him
